Major American online poker pro moves to Canada

Phil Galfond is known in the online poker community by his Full Tilt screen name, "OMGClayAiken." Before Black Friday, you could find him playing on the nosebleed tables at both Full Tilt and PokerStars (under the name "Mrsweets28"). However, Galfond is an American, which means he no longer has access to Full Tilt or PokerStars.

That changed this week as he announced he has moved to Canada so he could play online poker. Galfond is the most high-profile American player to make a move out of the country to play online poker. He had this to saw on his Twitter account:

Really happy to be back playing at @PokerStars. They've been extremely helpful and responsive with getting everything setup again.

Not many people know about this but did he waste his time moving? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Union . Kinda even wonder if America is even America anymore?

I tried to find info on it but looks like it never happened?? lol... or did it? hahaha

I have never heard of him, but his name is a pretty good one(very original!). I think its a great move to go across the border, more players should be imitating this move!

Haha... no WAY is Canada ever going to join the US. We don't carry guns, we don't sell booze at 7-11, we don't send our sons to fight other people's wars, and we believe everyone has an equal right to quality health care. We are too different -- and we like it that way, eh!

The US just needs to get over itself and regulate poker - everyone over there plays, even my father in law has regular home games with his buddies!

I know that lots of online pros moved to Canada. He is probably the biggest name, but I know of at least another 4-5 friends of mine who just made the move, guys who have already made millions playing tournaments online and live. And I hear more and more of them are planning to move too.

Phil Galfond is an awesome poker player, possibly one of the best ever. Sounds like it will become a growing trend. Oh well, America's loss is Canada's gain
