Default NETeller Co-Founder's Trial Information

The NETeller co-founders have a hearing scheduled for this Friday, but that doesn't mean they will appear in court, according to Rebekah Carmichael, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney that is handling the case.

Carmichael said one of three things happens in the time period period between when a person is charged and when they are indicted - either they are indicted, they are not indicted, or the decision is extended.

One of those three things will happen for Lawrence and LeFebvre by Friday.

In their two previous hearing dates - the decision was extended.

Default Friday NETeller Hearing Update

Just got off the phone with the U.S. Attorney's Office...

Despite reports from gambling.911, the government has not officially asked for an extension. Rebekah Carmichael, the press secretary, said that information will not be available until tomorrow.

I will call again and update this information.

This does not mean the government hasn't asked for an extension, however, I am not comfortable reporting it has happened until...well...it actually happens.

Can they keep getting extensions as long as they want? What happened to the "speedy trial"? Seems like "indefinite confinement" or something, without bringing charges.

It's sad how intermingled politics and courts have gotten.

Default Extension granted in NETeller case

Just got of the phone with the U.S. Attorney's office (yes, they know us down there now ). There's been another extension in the NETeller case. The next hearing is scheduled for April 16th. One important thing that U.S. Attorney's spokeswoman Rebekah Carmichael passed on to me was that in order for an extension to occur, all parties have to agree to it.

That was what I wanted to know. So these guys (or their attorneys) think this is to their benefit. I read before that Neteller is "cooperating" in providing records of customers to the AG. Perhaps this is what's taking so long to sort out.

I believe that's accurate. Generally, attorneys will push for a quick resolution if it benefits their client. In this case, it appears that the delays are mutually beneficial.
