Nevada to start accepting online poker license applications next year

The Nevada State Gaming Control will begin accepting online poker license applications in February 2012, according to an announcement made by Gaming Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli at the U.S. Online Gaming Law conference last week in Las Vegas.

    From Poker News Daily:

Any licenses issued would permit operators to only offer internet games to residents of Nevada. Because the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) is still in place, interstate online poker is not allowed. Intrastate online poker, or online poker within state borders, is explicitly permitted. Of course, proponents of legalization and regulation on the federal level argue that the intrastate game would not be able to achieve the critical mass needed to make it viable in most states, but that is besides the point.

For operators who are already licensed for brick and mortar gambling in Nevada, the process should go fairly quickly, according to Lipparelli. It won’t be as simple as stamping “APPROVED” on an application – operators will still have to show that they have the technology to keep underage players and those from outside Nevada off their site – but it should be relatively smooth. New operators, however, will be subjected to extensive licensing investigations, which could take several months.

“We’ve taken our brick-and-mortar operational standards to a new level,” Lipparelli said. “We’re going to continue to be flexible, but we think we’ve set the bar high for licensing and suitability.”

Nevada Gaming Control issuing online licenses, we knew that was the plan from the start. All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together.

Easy license for the brick and mortar casinos, jumping through hoops for everyone else.

lol What a complete joke! This is the real truth behind the UIGEA, it has nothing to do with protecting the rights of online players. Land casinos simply cannot compete with online casinos, and its been like that for a long time. Another set back for online gambling (if your not a land casino).

It NEVER had anything to do with protecting players.....

If it was about protecting players and their money, the government would not have "kept" the players money....but they did....

The governemnt took their money, kept it, and then claimed players lost it dealing with untrusted gambling establishments....however if the government would not have seized it, players would still have access to their own money....

What part of this does the general media not understand or afraid to report the truth about?

Other than in California, New York, Texas and Florida I think an intrastate poker site would completely suck. Sure you'd get people, but the only reason I'd play on an intrastate site would be to avoid the cashout and solvency issues that now exist in the post-black friday world.
