New online gaming regulation in Germany

Regulated online poker could be a step closer in Germany after 15 of the country's 16 states approved new legislation that allows for the creation of up to 20 sports betting licences.

The only state not to sign the agreement is Schleswig Holstein which has already passed its own online gaming legislation.

The wider German law needs approval from the European Commission and is likely to face strong opposition from online poker providers who consider it restrictive.

Seriously I get these less and less every day. The whole purpose of licenses like Malta, Gibraltar and Isle of Man, was to have a European legal framework under which all of those would work under, not having a new set of rules every time you cross a border, which are opposites in direction in most cases. I understand its all about the money and taxes (not so much for player protection I believe), but these country by country restrictions only end up helping the growth of under the radar gaming organizations.
Im rambling I know, but just getting very annoyed at all these steps in the wrong direction. I believe in regulations, but sustainable ones and bearing in mind existing business.....

No poker and no casino allowed in that proposal of the 15 states, also hefty taxes and limitations on sportsbetting turnover per customer and month; no limitations, lower taxes with poker and casino allowed in that one lonely state of Schleswig Holstein. Problem there is that the politicians currently NOT running that state already said, that if they win the next election there, they`ll get rid of that law.

Bookies are rumored to be lining up to get a license there as it will be valid in all of Germany...

EU still has to sign off on that 15states-proposal and that is not guaranteed at all. EU has already signed off on that Schleswig-Holstein bill, though
