Default Nominet Confirm New .UK Domains

This has been actually going on for ages, but only just confirmed today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25006066

Basically there will be a new .uk domain extension (eg: example.uk). Priority is being given first to the holders of the equivalent .co.uk (eg: if you have example.co.uk you have first dibs on example.uk).

There's an FAQ to the new TLD on the nominet website: http://www.nominet.org.uk/how-partic...lDomains/qanda

Oh also.. there were initially talks of only allowing UK residents and businesses to hold .uk domains (like many other countries do), but this has been relaxed to needing an address in the UK.

However, fears that this would be too stringent mean the rule has been relaxed, and applicants will now only need to have a physical address in the country that the police or others can use to reach them.
