Default Non-profit group is first file GDPR complaints vs. Facebook, Google

    Well, that didn't take long.

Just hours after Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect last week a complaint was promptly filed by a nonprofit group against Facebook, Google, WhatsApp and Instagram over “forced consent.”

    From Fortune.com

The complaints about Google, Facebook and Facebook’s subsidiaries come from a group called None Of Your Business (NOYB)—a non-profit founded by the very successful serial Facebook litigant Max Schrems. Schrems, the Austrian lawyer who annihilated the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor data-sharing agreement a few years ago, formed the crowdfunded NOYB in order to take on big tech firms that break the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR.)

According to Schrems and his NOYB group, Google and Facebook are railroading users in this way.

“Facebook has even blocked accounts of users who have not given consent. In the end users only had the choice to delete the account or hit the ‘agree’ button–that’s not a free choice; it more reminds of a North Korean election process,” said Schrems in a statement. “Many users do not know yet that this annoying way of pushing people to consent is actually forbidden under GDPR in most cases.”

It appears that many people don't agree with the GDPR and feel apprehensive about it. Great read and very interesting.

There are people in this world; who setup their entire careers in this sort of low life activity. Luckily; they are up against a wall. These companies have an army of lawyers.

Yep, this. But it's good to see that they are going to waste their time against the bigger guys instead of bullying smaller guys with their privacy fundamentalism.

While I don't agree with purposely setting up an organization with the sole intent to take legal action on XYZ. I must say that the guy has a point. I tried to access FB the other day, and was blocked. Why? I was informed about this issue:

    Cookies Required

Cookies are not enabled on your browser. Please enable cookies in your browser preferences to continue.

So I enable the cookies that mattered; those that don't track to 3'rd parties.

However, my login was blocked again, with the same message. Clearly, unless you allow FB to dump ALL their cookies, then you can't have access. Which flies in the face of the GDPR...And, like everyone else, FB should also be held accountable...just sayin!
