NY Times reports on Frank bill

The New York Times ran an article on Sunday (a few weeks late, but any press is good press) about Barney Frank's attempt to overturn the UIGEA.

The Times says that Frank's new bill has roughly two dozen co-sponsors, most of them Democrats.

Of course, there is strong opposition to this bill:

“Illegal offshore Internet gambling sites are a criminal enterprise, and allowing them to operate unfettered in the United States would present a clear danger to our youth, who are subject to becoming addicted to gambling at an early age,” Representative Spencer Bachus, Republican of Alabama and the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, said in a statement.

I intended to revisit this thread to show steps Canada is taking.

Parents now have a new weapon in the fight to keep kids from online gambling.
The Nova Scotia Gaming Corp. has developed software that parents can install on home computers that will block access to gambling websites. The software is said to be the first of its kind in the world.

If there is a problem with Underage Gambling Addiction maybe cyberspace should not take all the responsibility. Although not fool proof but is step in the right direction for those Government officials who think it is their job to monitor Online Gambling.

Maybe the Republican of Alabama should be made aware there exists several other methods to fight online gambling addiction.

Good parenting skills goes along way.

I recall when my daughter was coming up, she was a bit too involved in some areas of the internet that I did not approve of. Removing her ability to access the internet cured the issue up in seconds. Never had any more issues.

As Greek said, parenting skills come into play. Maybe if parents were more involved...
