    Online Cheating?

    Hello,

I am interested in getting information on cheating statistics and thought maybe somebody on the forum could help. I am looking for information on cheating and how the perception of cheating may affect retention etc. It is very hard to find any statistics on online gambling sites so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen some data about player perceptions of cheating put out by the American Gaming Association. Their survey is specifically within the United States and it may be that there are cultural differences in perception of cheating, so I'm not sure if the information would apply to a non-U.S. player audience.

The report was "State of the States: The AGA Survey of Casino Entertainment", which the AGA puts out annually. However, the last time it included questions about online gambling was in the 2006 survey. It is availabe in PDF format at www.americangaming.org/assets/files/2006_Survey_for_Web.pdf, with the online gaming section being pages 21-27. Or there is an index linking to the surveys from other years available at www.americangaming.org/survey/index.cfm.

I discussed this data briefly in a conference talk I gave a few years back, although it was only a brief portion of the talk. The powerpoint slides are available at www.gpwa.org/conferences/presentations.asp?slides=FairGamingPresentation.

Bear in mind the perceptions may have changed since the surveys were conducted due to recent mainstream media coverage of poker room security problems.

    Yours,
    Steven
