May seem daft but Ferguson is the guy if any who can get Owen back to peak and if he can you have to agree he will be an asset to Utd

It's all confirmed now. Two year deal on what looks like pay as you play terms.

Crazy? Well, it depends on how you look at it. A lot of Fergie apologists have been pointing to previous signings like those of Sheringham and Larsson as a way of justifying this one.

The thing is: Sheringham was performing well for the mighty Spurs (can you tell who I support?!) before Fergie came in for him and Sheringham was almost never injured. Not much of a risk there.

Larsson - he was a two month loan signing when Man U needed an experienced forward to pull the various threads of the United squad together. He only scored 3 goals - but contributed greatly and got things back on track for United in the post-Xmas period that season.

Then he went back to Sweden.

Owen is a different beast altogether. If Kevin Keegan can find a new role for Owen, as he did when he played a three pronged striking force with Owen behind Martins and Viduka, then surely Ferguson can get something even better out of the player in the 2009-2010 season.

And, if not, it's not cost United a great deal to take the risk. It's no lose for Fergie.
