Default Paddy Power to launch sports betting app on Facebook

Paddy Power will soon allow U.K. punters to make real-money picks through Facebook.

The group said a beta version of the betting platform which is initially only available to desktop computer users in the UK is currently being trialed and will be launched in coming weeks.

Will current Paddy Power customers who already have sports betting accounts that track through specific "affiliate partners" be compensated for betting through Facebook or is this going to be considered a different "channel" and as a result, "affiliate
partners" will not benefit from their previous referrals when this betting app is used?

Details are still being finalised for affiliates - we'll provide a full update once we have the complete information.

I mean no disrespect to you Luke when I say this - but one would think that if Paddy Power has taken the time to do a Press Release on the Facebook betting app - they'd have all the details planned out. One would further think that they have already decided how this is going to affect affiliates.

Channels are betting segments, eg. sports, casino, games, poker, bingo etc, - they are not the transmission methods.

At present my players are tracked and counted whether they bet in-shop (thru account), via the phone, via the website, or via the mobile app. Facebook is just another medium.

I'd struggle to understand or accept any attempts to declare the facebook betting method as "ring-fenced" and not counting for affiliates.
