The Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has removed its offer to take bets on whether US President-elect Barack Obama will be assassinated.

Why would you encourage people to bet on such a thing. It would only encourage action if people began placing huge bets on the possibility of some being assasinated.

Guys just to clarify, this has been totally mis-reported. We neer had such a market and never would, we don't take bets on murder / deaths.

We had a market available betting on if Obama would last the first term, with the options available being he will be impeached or quit. Someone somewhere has mis-read our site, jumped to the worng conclusion and wrote a story about it.

It did raise my eyebrows when it was put on the site. Novelty bets are one thing but that was wrong....
