Pius Heinz becomes first German to win WSOP, claims $8.7 million first-place prize

Pius Heinz won the World Series of Poker's Main Event, becoming the first poker player from Germany to win the world's biggest poker tournament. He defeated a field of 6,865 players, including Martin Staszko of the Czech Republic, who finished second to win $5.4 million.

Will Heinz usher in a renewed poker boom in Germany?

I can imagine a lot more Germans will start playing poker now, especially with $8.7 million dollars at stake Pius Heinz played really well, I watched most of the tournament live on Foxtel. I can't believe Ben Lamb got knocked out so early on the final table, I thought for sure he would at least come second.
