PokerStars released an interesting press release this morning. The online poker site says that recent reports of its U.S. market share are "significantly higher than the actual amount."

Here's the release:

ISLE OF MAN -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- A number of recent commentaries have included estimates about our market share in the US which are significantly wrong.

While PokerStars continues to serve customers in the US based on the legal advice we have received, in terms of both player liquidity and revenue, the US market represents substantially less than 50% of our business.

After discounting the US market, our liquidity and revenues are still more than twice that of any other online poker competitor.
