Gowin is proposing that the current 12% tax on sports betting turnover be replaced by a 20% tax on betting revenue, and 10% of the government’s tax take should be shared with the Polish Olympic Committee and problem gambling initiatives.

I'm not sure that either proposal will work too well.

12% on turnover is huge - given a 3-4% bookie over-round as well would mean a 16% vig giving 1.84/1.84 price point .. that's -116 / -116 to you US punters .. and far too much juice to make betting a profitable pastime.

Changing that to 20% revenue is expensive too (assuming by revenue that they mean gross profit .. eg. Stakes - Payout) but I guess that you could handle that by adding that into the margins and get a 1.92/1.92 price (-108/-10 and sort of be attractive to local players.

Remember that the best online books (without a polish license) will be offering 1.98/1.98 (pinnacle) or 1.96/1.96 as standard.

There are a lot of talks about new legislation on polish market. Gowin's project probably will be rejected because new goverment project is proceeded. In this project casinos and online poker is still banned. However, goverment plans to change betting tax. From what I heard it won't change the situation. Martin Haijer EGBA Secretary General told that EGBA will not join market which is regulated improperly

Strangely enough, the article was written exactly one month ago, and we did not know about this. Really, imagine that the countries one after other will legalize online casino.

But the Polish Minister of Finance said that gambling expansion wasn't on the agenda this year, so I don't think there will be any changes, at least this year.

    Maybe it's deceptive policy?

I think there will be no changes, never ever.
