Problem gambling research critically flawed, says UK academic

    Hi,

For those with took issue with our story last month about problem gaming being ten times more likely among online gamblers, here's a nice response from a rival academic, who say the study was critically flawed!

The British Gambling Prevalence Survey used data from a survey of 9003 people aged 16 years and over that had gambled online and/or used a betting exchange in the 12 months prior. The research was done in collaboration with the National Centre for Social Research and Professor Jim Orford of the University of Birmingham, and was funded by the UK’s Gambling Commission.

18, unless it's The National Lottery, which is 16's and over.

However, children of any age are allowed to play Category D machines down by the seaside. (family entertainment centres)

It's interesting, and encouraging, that you write an article that flies in the face of the usual industry propoganda bullshit. Most unexpected and welcome. I'll have to sign up.

That said, it stands to reason that problem gambling is rife on the internet. You only have to look at the projections of the Frank lobby - billions of tax dollars if the UIGEA get repealed - to realise this.
