    Default Site map issue

    Hi -

I am getting a bunch of 404 errors where YOAST appears to have set up site maps for categories in word press. So for example I have a slot-games-categories-sitemap.xml that contains a bunch of URLs for categories. They are bringing up 404 errors. Is this a big issue?

Any ideas how I de-index them?

Hi Mark, it is in the seriousness of 404 errors in which it depends on and the importance of those links that are affected. Most of the time, 404 errors are not very serious and you shouldn't worry about them too much. If the links and pages that are affected are not of real value or concern to you, then it's okay to get these 404 error messages, but obviously you will need to find a way to fix them.

If you want to de-index them, I suggest that you do everything from the ground up. You should go through all of your .XML files and weblinks and make sure that everything contained in them, has no errors in them and so forth. You should even get someone to double-check your work after you, just to confirm that everything is fine.

You can block the categories in Yoast so they don't appear in the site map. Click - SEO - Search Appearance - Taxomonies and it will be the top check box.
