Which source do you get most of your traffic from?

It will be interesting to know which traffic source is the most productive for us. It will be even more interesting if there is some kind of clear correlation between the best traffic source and conversion. But maybe we should have a separate poll for that.

Up until a few months ago most of my traffic came from referring sites. But, now search engines account for 45% of my visitors while referring sites send 35%.

40% come from Google. Nearly all of the remaining 5% are from Yahoo with Ask and MSN accounting for less than 1%.

My blog accounts for 26% of referrals.
GPWA accounts for nearly 20% of referred traffic.

"Poker Blacklist" is my highest referring keyword.

    Hi Pokerkeep, interesting stats,

Can you keep track of the referring track from for instance GPWA, you might get a lot of traffic from GPWA but isn't it mostly AM like myself that check out the page or competitors to you.

You can get that much money generating trafic from GPWA and similar sites or?

    Cheers
    Henrik

    Hi Henrik,

I can't say how many clicks come from each referring source but I would definitely agree with you that most visitors coming from GPWA and similar sites are not paying my bills. I believe that a few of those visitors may be contributing to my income through sub-affiliate sign ups, etc but most are probably just scoping out the competition.

Whatever the reason for the high number of GPWA referrals, it at least says that I (or my site) is getting noticed by my peers so I must either be doing something right or doing something wrong. My pappy always said that there's no such thing as bad publicity, lol, j/k.

I'd be curious to know how other sites compare with mine in this regard....

Most my traffic comes from Direct address\bookmark and represents around 60% of my clicks. I get 37% from Search engines and Social Bookmarking. This is divided in 50\50 between Digg\Stumbleupon and google meaning i only get 18% of google traffic... my site is actually online for 2 weeks so i guess this is normal.

    Seo

I get most of my traffic from organic SEO. Ever since I became an online casino affiliate, 5 years ago, I have been acquiring backlinks to my sites. I now have my own site dedicated to free SEO tips.

Now that I have a non-gambling site, I see how other webmasters seem to keep my non-gambling backlinks up longer. I'd say, maybe online gambling backlinks are one of the more difficult ones for a webmaster to get and keep.

I'd like to see more direct traffic. I think that I need to make my sites more "sticky". Google is providing the majority of the traffic (>90% of SE traffic), the remaining 10% is spread out on the other search engines (or seach engine bots).

I absolutely agree. I webmaster a software service provider site. It is not only easier to get and keep good backlinks there, but it is also easier to have higher PRs and SERPs.
