Default Sports Article - Haye vs. Klitschko Picks

    Hi Affiliates,

    Here's the article:

Sports Interaction betting analyst Frank Doyle looks forward to the big heavyweight fight this weekend between Britain’s David Haye and the Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko.

With the current popularity of superhero movies, maybe the promoters of the Haye v Klitschko fight missed a trick by not billing it as The Hayemaker v Dr Steelhammer in Battle of the Planets! No matter – the fight in Hamburg this Saturday is that rare event in modern boxing, a fight that sells on its own merits.

Wladimir Klitschko and his brother, Vitali, have dominated the heavyweight division for the past decade. Vitali, the elder, is still WBC Champion but cognoscenti opinion is that Wladimir is now the better fighter and – if he gets past Haye on Saturday – could unify the belts by taking down his brother.

But the world will never know because the brothers promised their mother they would never fight each other and they are unmoving on that principle. And hey – who breaks a promise with Mom?

Haye, of course, has no such problem and has made it clear in the past that he’s eager to fight as many Klitschkos as he can lay hands on. This eagerness has gone down badly with the Klitschkos and there now exists a very real level of dislike between the Londoner and Wladimir Klitschko that adds a little flavor to an already quite tasty fight.

So who’s going to win? Klitschko is the odds-on favorite at -222. Haye is +175 and a draw is a +3500 longshot. Klitschko deserves his favoritism – he’s the Champion, he’s in the form of his life and he’s bigger and stronger than Haye.

Haye’s camp contend that their man is faster than Klitschko and is more natural fighter. And that’s fine as far as it goes but the history of boxing is that fighters who bulk up from light heavy or cruiserweight for a pop at the big time invariably meet a bigger man who’s naturally fast for his weight, who can carry the bulk better. And right now, Wladimir Klitschko fits that bill.

For Haye to win he has to tire Klitschko out in the early rounds and take him down at the end. Klitschko’s best chance is an early knockout, but it’d be mistake to conclude that Klitschko is a statue just because Haye is quicker around the ring. Klitschko has the experience, the craft and, most importantly, the hammer to put Haye away and unify the Heavyweight title. In one family, if not one man.

Sports Interaction has action on the outcome, total rounds and individual round betting, as well as the main event itself. Bet on all the big fights with Sports Interaction!

I was expecting more from this fight. I figured Klitschko would win, but was hoping for an upset. The heavy weight division has been boring since the Klitschko brothers have been champions. I would really like to see an undisputed heavy weight champion and with them holding the belts it will never happen.

I agree with you Anthony heavyweight boxing has become extremely boring and predictable to say the least.

Wladimir Klitschko is a technical boxer and plays it safe by not risking any unnecessary punches that might land him in trouble. I watched the fight between him and Haye and wanted to switch of the telly after the 4th round, although Haye tried his best to stage an upset at the end of the day he was simply out muscled by Klitschko who has far more experience and a longer reach. Haye also cheesed me off by constantly trying to involve the referee. I don't think Haye would have made it beyond the first round against Tyson, Lewis or Holyfield in their heyday.

I miss the good 'ol days of the Tysons, the Holyfields and the Lennox Lewis'.
