    Starting from scratch

    Hey guys,

Myself and the Fridge team have decided to start an affiliate portal (poker, casino, sportsbook and bingo) as a little side project to test out whether we know what we're talking about in terms of player aqcquisition. Since none of us has any SEO experience, it looks like a fairly tough challenge, but an interesting project none the less.

Can you please offer us any key hints and tips for avoiding pitfalls/ making a good go of it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I know this seems a bit like the wolf asking the shepherd for directions, but if you don't ask, you don't get!

Many thanks & have a top weekend.

    Cheers,

    Harry & The Fridge Team

    Hello Harry,
Good luck on your new adventure. You've certainly come to the right place. You mentioned that you that you are covering poker, casino, sportsbook and bingo. I would suggest sticking to a niche. You player base is way to broad across all the different themes. Stick with one niche inside one ofoker, casino, sportsbook and bingo

I think you'll have a higher chance of success.

A couple of starting points in no particular order:

    - Focus. Find a niche. It's not easy, but making another portal site with online casino listings offers nothing different and no reason for you to rank highly.
    - Consider buying an expired domain which already has some history,
    - With no SEO experience consider getting traffic from other sources: forums, social media, etc. Make sure you offer interesting information so that your traffic comes back to you
    - Do not expect immediate results. Plenty of affiliates are working very hard so you will have to work harder!
    - You can find all the SEO tips and opinions you'll need on the net but it'll take time!

    Good luck.

    Thank you

Cheers for the advice guys - all sounds like good sense. The site is called BetLinx.com and should be live within the month, with advice taken on board. Look forward to picking up hints and tips as we make mistakes!

Hope to see you in London next week.

    Cheers,

    Harry

Be careful in this: I bought two expired domains with lot of backlinks: I developed them, and they got banned in less than 2 months.

I agree with all other advices.

    Good Luck

Hey Harry, great site that is certainly an example of thinking out of the box there!

I also look forward to seeing your new site once it is up and running, the members here are all well involved and clued up with how you start out so its a good place to start with asking the questions here.

DO take time to search stuff here too, there are thousands of posts on all topics and it is likely that it may have been covered already.

Once live give me a shout as I would be interested in seeing if/how we can work together pushing www.redflush.com

    Cheers,

    Martyn

Fair point about buying expired domain names. You have to be careful: check things such as:
    - is the site banned from Google SERPs?
    - previous page rank,
    - how many back links did it get and from where?
