    Default Switch Hosting with Wordpress

If I have a site that is in wordpress and want to change hosting providers how does that work? Since wordpress is a databse within my hosting account will everything change over properly? I have never changed hosting for a wordpress site but I am tired of being charged $20 a month for hosting so I want to switch over to go daddy.

    Thanks for any help.

You would need to transfer all your WordPress files and your database over to your new hosting account. If you are not sure how to do it yourself I think GoDaddy do offer a website transfer service for a small fee. You would also need to change your dns settings with your domain hosting account.

GoDaddy hosting really sucks - I'd avoid it at all costs.

As for the transfer, there are a couple of really easy ways to do it - if the old and new hosts use cpanel you can do a cpanel migration. And if you used some kind of software installer such as installatron or softaculous you can use it to export/import the site to the new server.

Biggest thing to remember is whether you have much installed that required a lot of permission settings. If so make a list now before you move.

Get a database dump, and then a complete backup of site files.

Awesome guys thanks! I had no idea where to even start. So Go Daddy really sucks? It seems everyone I talk to uses them. I am paying $23.90 per month per site where I am now and that just seems expensive to me. Over $130 a month for hosting just seems insane. If I could cut it in half I would be happy. As for Host Gator, I thought I heard some time back they were giving some people grief about hosting gambling websites. Has that subsided?

Loads of people (including myself) use godaddy for domains, but the hosting is terrible. I signed up a couple of months ago to see what it was like and ended up demanding a refund. It was literally the worst I've ever used in terms of speed - every page took a minute or two to load.

So where is everyone going for hosting. I use web.com now and do not have any complaints other than the price.

If you're already using a shared hosting account with cPanel why don't you just create Addon Domains and host all your sites on one hosting account? Any of your current hosting accounts will allow you a certain amount of Addon Domains at no extra charge.

Just remember when hosting on a "cheap" hosting account it is normally "cheap and nasty".

I have used dreamhost for all my gambling sites and it is pretty cheap as well especially if you are going for a shared hosting option. You might try to contact them and see the plans they have to offer. The uptime has been almost 98% and their support is also very quick to respond.

You're US focussed, right? I don't use much US based hosting I'm afraid so can't recommend any but I'm pretty sure there was a thread on GPWA a while back where people were talking about US hosting companies.

Oh also, just FYI, the godaddy hosting I was referring to before was the EU based one, but I'm pretty sure the US would be just as bad. Also I've heard multiple times about how they suck from other people that do have the US one.

Do some research and find a good dedicated server provider and host all your sites there. A good dedicated server can be found for $100 or less, and you'll get a noticeable loading speed increase on all your sites even if you choose the worst server on the market. Google likes speed. Take note, you need a fully managed server, otherwise you'll need to perform maintenance yourself.

    GoDaddy sucks.

Icebluehost (regular link | affiliate link) gives you a fully managed dual core server for $92. And they'll set up all your sites. You might want to check them out, they also have some winter promotions, and a "Rescue me" promotion which gives you 25% discount for life when you switch from another provider.

As far as the migration goes, your new provider should do it for you. If they don't, then they won't be there for you when you need them for something much more complicated and urgent.

Anyone who has either a single website with a lot of traffic or multiple websites should get a dedicated server.

God. Unlimited MySQL databases. Unlimited storage space and unlimited bandwidth.

One must wonder, why isn't Google.com hosted with them? They'd save a lot by taking this unlimited plan

Speed is not always determined by the server itself.

The fastest servers in the world will still perform poorly if the speed issues are related to the network infrastructure the servers are plugged into.

Hostgator reseller is decent for what it is - $25 a month - I use corenetworks.net for my dedi and they're decent.

For migrating you can use cpanel and have it restored, it's relatively simple to do it manually; export SQL db, download all files from public_html, upload to new host, create new db w/ new host, change db details in wp config files if necessary, import db, change name servers w/ domain registrar. Alternatively you can use backup buddy for Wordpress and it will back everything up with the click of a button but it's pricey for something you won't be doing too often - may be free alternatives.

With cpanel some versions can remotely send all files and db to your new host so you could look into that too.

I have tried various different hosting providers over the years and some are better then others. My suggestion would be to get yourself a VPS server with a recommended server provider we have used Heart and web fusion in the past Web fusion is the better out of the 2 as they have 24/7 uk support

    Hi,

I had great service with Hostgator, and they hosted most of my sites. The thing i like is there support was good. Only reason i moved from them, is that i wanted to be able to phone for support, and for me to call the US from South Africa, was not what i wanted.
