Terms often used and not known

I know when I started out I would see terms and abbreviations for websites and really did not know what they meant. I came across this site today that may help out with some of the terms and make new people a bit more comfortable:

    http://www.higher-sites.co.uk/seo_glossary.html

It is not an end all, but does list some basic terms that may help you out in the beginning.

From the very start as i learn new things about seo, i just take some time to read and analyze some terms pertaining seo. That's why most of the terms listed there are not new to me and often used on my promotion. As time comes by, another new term will be introduced soon.

I was always wondering, why are "back links" not simply called "links"?

They call them "back links" to help differential a link coming from someone else's site or a link that is on your site linking to someone elses website. The implications of who you link to, and who links to you is important in SEO terms. I usually call the IBLs (inbound links).
