    Default Totesport Stopping Sportsbook Acquisition

This came through yesterday for those promoting Totesport.

Totesport are planning to reduce all Sportsbook acquisition campaigns from Friday 6th September. We kindly ask that you remove all Totesport exposure from your traffic sources prior to this date.

We apologise for the short notice, but we have been informed by Totesport that they plan to focus their business model more towards pools players by the end of October. As a result, Totesport will stop acquisition of new sportsbook players at this point whilst they review the model.

We plan to have a full discussion on how this will affect the affiliate program over the next month, and will make arrangements to reach out to affiliates on an individual basis to discuss this further. However, we wanted to give you a heads up as soon as possible in order to give you the time to remove all exposure.

If you have any questions, please give us a call on 0161 672 7777 or you can email us at hi@activewins.com.

Yeah got it too along with ComeOn's withdrawal from the UK, just another kick in the balls. Don't know how they will survive on their new model they are planning.

    What is "pools players"?
We are all bloodsucking ticks, hungry, devious
each one latched on to the ass of the previous
when the last and the first latch on it can be shown
ass-blood sucked by the first from the last is his own

A pools firm can still have an affiliate program. This is simply theft of the player base.

They are not closing the program, they just don't want new customers, you will still earn on your player base until they decide what they are doing. There is precedent here, they have done this in the past, they were pools only before.

I hope Tote will do the right thing - Continue to pay their partners for old refered customers or the question is whether to close down completely?

You are guessing. I have promoted them since they started, and their first brand was Totalbet, launching around 1999 / 2000. They have never suspended their affiliate program before, so there is no precedent. They were never pools only. The tote always took the full range of fixed odds bets as well as offering the pool betting, which they had a monopoly for as they were UK government-owned until Betfred bought them. Betfred has now sold the tote on to a new group, so we have no idea what their plans are regarding the affiliate program. But I dont share your optimism. They have already started this shutdown with a lie - the idea that a tote firm cant have an affiliate program.

Totalbet was a website that tote set up with sporting life and exited in 2002. Totesport was an entirely separate entity set up by the Tote in 2004, which was still publicly owned at the time.

They were pools only for a while. A few years ago they put the main site into a prolonged maintenance mode and started using this site (https://pools.tote.co.uk) for pool betting only. Even when the main site came back it was mobile only for ages.

They are not suspending their affiliate program just requesting no new referrals. I know it is difficult to be optimistic in the latest climate but I think the program will stay they will just go back to being a pools only site for a while. It's also run by Active Wins who have a vested interest to not screw affiliates as we will stop promoting their other brands.

Betfred are still part owners of the tote, it hasn't been totally sold.

I have never had a break from referring players to totesport. Yes, they went 'mobile only' for affiliates for a while. But the referrals kept being made despite the stupid landing pages. They didn't go 'mobile only' for anything but affiliate links. They always had fixed odds betting, I have a player account with them. History apart, a discussion that could rumble on between us for ages by the looks of it . . this firm's control has moved on. Activewins are rightly rogued in various respected places, the Betfred stats are currently gibberish after they migrated to a platform that doesn't work - so maybe not an organisation to put trust in. I would be very pessimistic, especially as you say, given the current climate of theft. There is a new thread about Paddy Power Betfair stealing and closing only today. Most major UK firms have been at it one way or another. Bet365 is the only one with any integrity. I believe this is the first move in totally shafting totesport affiliates. Obviously I hope you are right but if they are still paying affiliates in six months I'll be amazed.

Well if they decide to close the sportsbook and no one can place a bet, obviously there's no affiliate income anymore.

I don't know any details but new owners tend to want to maximize profit and will often do it with an axe of some sorts.

I don't believe they'll close the fixed-odds sportsbook. It's business as usual right now.

I see they have sponsored an entire race meeting today, race titles like "Bet In Play at Totesports Handicap." Yes, they are really stopping accepting sportsbook customers!!
