U.K. may offer new lure for online casinos

The Buzz has friends in the U.K. who keep saying pack your bags and move to London. And given the U.K.'s increasingly friendly attitude toward online gambling, it sounds tempting. In next month's budget, Chancellor Gordon Brown is expected to introduce a Remote Gaming Duty in his next budget (in March). This would allow online casinos to stay offshore, be regulated by the U.K., pay a 2-3 pence tax and avoid the hefty VAT (up to 40 pc depending on size). Online gaming firms have been pretty receptive to offer. Go U.K. Go U.K. Go U.K.

Not so much a clever government rather than one that got it wrong the first time round and is now trying to gain a much needed share.

Sounds great. I would like to see them take the reigns and show the rest of the world how to do it.

Cameron is hardly going to use further online gambling liberalisation as part of his ticket into office.

And by the way, this thread was two and a half years old. In the meantime, Gordon Brown displayed a remarkably anti-gambling stance.

Not sure why TheBuzz didn't report on it?

    Ha ha!

Yes, I'm with Caruso - this thread is a little dated! more on the topic from William Hill CEO Ralph Topping.
