Question UKGC - "Free Spins" and No Deposit Bonuses in the UK

    Hey people!

Does anyone know exactly what is allowed right now in the UK market when it comes to no deposit bonuses?

Is it allowed to call it free spins if they are spins that does not require deposit?

Is even no deposit bonuses allowed in the UK anymore?

Some casinos are even removing free spins instead of calling them extra spins, casino spins, bonus spins.

Anyone that has accurate info on this or knows where to find it.

    Cheers.

The way I understand it free spins have to be properly 'free' without any deposit required to get them. You can still call them free spins if they meet this criteria.

If you receive spins as an additional component of a deposit bonus then you need to call them 'extra' or something other than free.

I think there is no issue with no deposit bonuses but as the terms of these bonuses need to now be made much clearer a lot of operators are abandoning them as they are simply not as attractive anymore.

It seems to vary from operator to operator so who knows what the answer is...

Some advertise "free spins" and "freeplay" but they have wagering terms on the wins
Others offer the chance to win "free spins" but they too have wagering terms
Elsewhere you will find "free spins" but to get them you need to make a deposit, yet wins have no wagering
Finally you may free spins, with no deposit and no wagering...

An industry standard would be useful - something UKGC should have sorted out when they started on this process.

I predict that in a few months we'll all be having to alter copy to accommodate more new rules.

most of it's nonsense - even when we are receiving emails from specific brands stating we can't do this or that - the banners in the affiliate backend and landing pages appear to fly in the face of whats being requested. brands need to get their **** together before dictating.

I agree I do not mind adding the terms, but when it comes to writing a paragraph in a bonus table it becomes hard. I have also seen where we are told that we must use their text exactly which equates to about 40 words only to see some Facebook ads by the same brands with the generic T&C's apply - 18+

Agree that it's tough at the moment and it will not be until the dust begins to settle on this issue that any sort of standard format appears for how to word things.

In general the legislation says that where a bonus is described or promoted it must also:

    • Have a clear description of the ĎKey Termsí (although legislation doesnít fully define key terms!)
    • The description should not be misleading (so donít use words like FREE or CASH if actually a deposit is required and the offer is for Bonus or Free Bets)
    • That a reader must then be able to read the full terms and conditions within one click. Using our landing pages ensures compliance as each of them features the full terms of the welcome offer.

Our approach to this is to define what 'Key Terms' are for our affiliates and to make sure all traffic directs via banners/links on to landing pages that are 100% compliant.

    Grosvenor/Mecca Key Terms are:

    • Deposit required
    • T&Cís apply
    • 18+ only
    • begambleaware.org (hyperlinked)

Now that to me should suffice as the full terms would be a link away in our case. But as it stands I have paragraphs in my tables (damn ugly).

Must say begambleaware will become a huge site with the number of backlinks pointing to it.

According to the branch within the CMA that checks the website to see if it's compliant, those are not good enough (which IMO is absolutely ridiculous).
