Using banners with the casinos URL

    Hi,

I had a question, does anybody use banners that specifically have the casinos URL in it? I remember, I think it was Renee, saying that this was a bad practice from the casinos as it could steal traffic from the affiliate.

Just wondering what affiliate's policies are on this and if I should ask the affiliate manager to remove the URL from the banners I was given.

Do you mean just the URL or the URL within your tracking link?

I mean that their url is shown in the banner. So in the banner the text is www.casinoname.com underneath their logo.

Ohhh I see I did think your post was a bit strange. If you are not happy with the banners, I would use different banners or ask your aff manager to change them.

I know a few operators who have done this in the past - some affiliates were not happy as players could potential just type the URL in when seeing the banner. Obviously, there is no way to measure this.

I would just ask them for alternative banners - if not, explain why it's a problem. They should see sense

I won't - as matter of fact I asked a program to send me another banner without it a few months back and pointed out that affiliates don't like the url as part of banner image.

You can use a seperate program to store the links, so it first redirects to another part of your site, and from there it loads the casino's urls.
But if you add the nofollow tag it doesn't matter if they use their real url right?

I think there are script for affiliate banners that shows the link of the casino i.e. rushmore casino but the code register the traffic directly for the posting affiliate site or casino portal. Am I right on this or is it out of the topic?

I understood the question to mean the domain written or printed on the banner itself.

    Exactly....

I usually will NOT use baners with the url on them either.

I have many times edited the image and removed or covered it, or used a different banner, or promoted a different property.

Interesting question. Years ago the BrightShare team made a strategic decision that we would not offer banners with the casino URLs printed on them.

So check out our extensive stock of URL-free banners!

It's actually a good point, and one that I hadn't really though about before.

I think quite a few people type in the address rather than use links on a site, because they don't want us getting the commissions

I don't think thats the reason as a lot of players aren't even aware that when they click on a banner someone will get a commission because of that

Just players those are webmaster themselves may do it. Players, especially vip players don't pay attention to it.

while not the exact topic, it is related, Does anyone has any "real" data that masking the affiliate link converts better than not masking it?

I've nothad this problem but it sounds like it could be more of a branding ad than a call to action.
I would want a fixed fee for an ad like that.

slotplayer, I have asked this before and there are people who swear by masking - but equally there are several super affiliates who don't mask links, so I'm not convinced. I think you'd need a huge amount of players for testing to be of any value since there are so many factors in play.

I believe Gooner said that he doesn't open aff links in new windows either - clearly most people use target="_blank", but then I reckon 95% of us make less money than Gooner
