What do you prefer: a no-deposit or deposit player bonus?

Just yesterday, Sky Bingo modified their standard player offer from a deposit bonus to a completely free £10 for Sky Bingo players. This rounds out the fourth and final product to make this change, meaning a standard £10 completely free is now available across Sky Bet, Sky Poker (Tournament Entry), Sky Bingo and Sky Vegas.

What is affiliate feedback regarding what you find to convert best with your players in the long term? Does a deposit requirement generally attract a higher quality player? Or does a completely free offer hook new players who return for repeated play?

Interested in hearing what you guys think...

Is this offer live? I can't see anything about it on the sky website or affiliate hub.

I think no deposit bonuses work very well in the UK with brands like sky - where registrations are followed up with additional promotions and the brand is advertised all over the tv etc... Gives us a fighting chance of the player converting. Results vary wildly with less memorable brands.

I would say a no deposit bonus offer to get players in and then deposit bonuses to get them depositing/playing.

It depends from brand to brand and affiliate site to affiliate site.

There is no proven formula - if this was the case, we'd all be doing the same thing.

    Hi SlotsAff & Baldidiot,

Thanks for the feedback - hopefully you're correct

Regarding the Sky Bingo bonus having gone live, that actually happened today (apologies for any confusion, the website has now been updated, and creatives reflecting the new offer available in the Affiliate Hub system).

Please let me know if you need any help grabbing code.

One more thing - how do you think the £10 completely free from Sky Bingo fares against other Bingo brands?

    Cheers,
    Deanna

It's good - I have a list of uk focussed no deposit bonuses here if you want to see how it compares to similar brands.

I notice there's no mention of a deposit bonus - will the NDB be followed up with any kind of incentive to deposit?

I actually prefer both freebies and deposit offers.

As long as the freebie isn't the only offer the visitor sees on the promo page once arriving at the property and can choose either offer than the addition of a freebie can be good.

I think baldy said it very well here....

Sky's no deposit bonus has certainly been a success in terms of sign-ups beyond what we would normally expect. As for the quality of player, hard to quantify. But my assumption is these players browsed the offers on our sites and chose the Sky one because it was actually something for nothing. They would not have been interested in even browsing the offers unless they seriously wanted a bet (that is my assumption) so hopefully despite the complete freebie they will prove to be quality sign-ups.

    Follow up question:
On a no deposit bonus page, where there are several offers listed, which offer has a higher conversion rate? The highest no deposit bonus? The lowest? Or the middle?

Part of me thinks that a higher bonus would attract more bonus hunters, but the other part of me thinks that the lowest bonus would only attract the players that are literally playing every free bonus on the page hoping to get a free cashout.

    Thoughts?

Specifically talking about bingo - the £1 bonuses don't really convert for squat. And when 32red were offering the £32 bonus it was pillaged for all it was worth and consistently sent my account into the negative. I'd say the £5-£10 range is good.

    hi deanna

I always find the no deposit bonuses are excellent for sending sign up and if you have a decent follow up and retention strategy then you can really cash in. For example the skybet one has been superb, when it first changed i sent 59 sign ups in the first month and looking at the stats a fair few have carried on betting as well. that can only be a good thing. I won't go into anymore things i do but they always help when it's no deposit. If you are at LAC let me know and we can have a chat

With regards to comparing to other brands its nothing special, plenty of sites offer 10 even ones that cater specifically for the UK. I am interesting in knowing how long the ndb will last for please? Is it long term?

Oh right! I have been talking about their £10 free sports offer (which incidentally has gone down well too) . . . so just ignore me then!

Before I clicked through to read this thread in full, I'd presumed it was about casino no-deposit bonuses, which - personally - I hate as they always attract bonus hunters and not real players.

For bingo, however, the situation is different. Bingo players tend to be extremely loyal to the sites at which they usually play, so a no-deposit bonus is a good option to get them to try alternatives. That way you can say 'look just check out Sky Bingo' (or whomever) 'it's not going to cost you anything and you might just like it'.

For bingo: a no-deposit bonus is my preference.

    Hi thebookiesoffer/Aidan,

I think the fact that Sky's CRM/retention strategy across all products is so strong, it balances the initial completely free offers by incentivizing continued activity. If that were not the case, I wouldn't be so confident in its long terms success and profitability for both affiliates and Sky. Glad to hear the brand's going well for you. I will be at LAC and would love to meet up. Are you available at 2pm on Friday January 27th?

Look forward to hearing form you,
    Deanna

    Hi all,

Also, regarding retention, Sky Bingo offers Bingo Gems (http://www.skybingo.com/online/promo...subfooter_gems)

It's a relatively new loyalty scheme, which rewards your players with cash and Bingo bonuses. The more they play at Sky Bingo, the more Loyalty Points they can earn and the higher the rewards that are available, meaning there's endless incentive to keep playing and being rewarded for doing so.
