What do you think of toilet promotions?

At the London Affiliate Conference Last week there was a memorable advertising campaign in the men's room. Perhaps there was one in the woman's room too, although if there was I did not see it personally.

For your personal viewing pleasure I have reproduced below two photos showing the location of the advertising posters within the men's room and one close-up photo of each of the three styles of posters. If you want, you can see larger images of the photos in the facebook photo album I created titled Ladbrokes LAC Men's Room Campaign.

So, what do you think of toilet promotions?

Do you find them disgusting or so funny they make you pee your pants?

And if you are aware of other campaigns of the same genre, be sure to share them with us too.

They are funny, but I wouldn't call them very funny. I see such ads in many German toilets nowadays. Some are really funny.

These pics and ourselves discussing it here, proves the campaign is super successful... They managed, not only to take our attention, but also got us to act: Taking these pics, posting them here, to Facebook, making it very viral.

We may like these ads or not, but I think we need to respect their way to try their luck, on creating this viral effect. Much better than spreading weird merchandise.

But still, their product is far from being attractive for most of the affiliates. These marketing efforts are wasted unless they understand the affiliates and fix the programme itself.

Well, as i suffer from IBS ( yes, that why i was constantly in and out of the gents - not because i have a charlie habit), i maybe saw a lot more of them than most did.

Thing is though i only actually noticed the "not here for a number 2" so either they were not that memorable or i was other wise engaged, not sure really ...

Looking at the other 2 though they are pretty dam funny imo

    Gents campaign

Though the idea cool and have sort of a viral effect, I do not know if I'd like my product to be associated with urinals unless I was a "hygiene" products manufacturer.

Though it is a little sexist I'd prefer to have some gals on tight stretch clothing having T-Shirts with the same teasers, it'd be much more effective and less negative association.

I noticed them and thought they were funny - IMO they were a distraction from the usual tactics employed.

I see thumbs up to the people who thought of this

I love this idea and have been trying to convince people for ages to do it - Made a really good talking point - I really want to know what the girls one said - here is a pic from an advert when I went to watch the Ashes in Leed - Brilliant

I only saw the 'Ready for Craps' one but didnt associate it with toilet humour, just thought is was an opportunistic aff program sticking there flyers up in the bogs.

Personally I think it stinks! (that was most probably Chalkie though)

I agree to define this "viral marketing".
It didn't hurt me but someone was very disappointed.

I always used the toilet with the stack of chips advert: it was funny telling people that each person has the advert more similar to his "size"

I don't know about the rest of you, but at home in the bathroom is where I get all my reading done.

So it makes sense to put these up where people have nothing else to look at. You'll have a very attentive audience.

Of course, you may have to deal with your adverts being defaced by kids or man-boys who carry a sharpie around with them everywhere and look like this:

I missed them as I was so dehydrated most times. (How can you drink so much at night and be so thirtsy the next day?)

I have to say, the ads worked since we have a poll. Viral marketing at it's best.

I think this kind of think has been around in pubs long enough that I don't particularly notice any more.

However as mentioned above it has created a pole and discussion so must be doing something right

I think they are perfect for individual urinals as it gives even the most confused gent somewhere to look.

I have been in a few sports bars where instead of advertising they had little tv's so you could keep up with the game while you are otherwise occupied.....don't worry they were eye level...

Never miss those interceptions or 95 yard kick returns again....lol

I can't remember which bar that was that I first saw those though....lol (I musta had a few drinks....lol)

I think they're a little humourous but they work incredibly well as ads.

Actually, Steven gave me the evil eye for this one because they are not currently sponsors. But I pulled rank and said that was why advertising and editorial departments are separate in most media companies. But you are sort of right too. While there are no outstanding promises on their part to become a sponsor program, my personal prediction is that they will, and I do know that Steven is talking to them about it. We'd like them to be here!

If affiliate managers spent as much time on one-on-one customer service and support to help affiliates grow (and as they do, sell more product) as they do thinking of gimmicks to get new people to join, the industry would be a lot better off.

Who is going to join a program by some swag or a bathroom advert? A newbie. And when that newbie cant bring in 10 players a month, they dont get much attention from the aff manager, other than "please send us more players"
