What make a good prize for a draw? (with poll this time :-\)

Sorry for posting this thread tiwce - I forgot to add the poll to the last one! At least I'm living up to my namesake

I'm getting very close to launching a new site that focusses heavily on user reviews and ratings. To encourage people to rate/review casinos I'm going to run some prize draws, but what should be the prize?!

You *have* to be kidding me. Why am I so dumb

Sigh. I don't want to make a third - is there anyway to add a poll to a thread once it's been posted?

I think one of the hottest consumer items out there is the iPad.

If you click on thread tools at the top of the thread there will be an option to add a poll.

I guess as a forum moderator I have more options available to me. If you send me a pm with the options you would like in the poll I can create a poll with them for you.

Well, I got the pm from baldidiot with the poll question about two weeks ago, but was more than just a little bit backed up, so I've just now added the poll.

    Time to start voting people!

I think to generate the most interest/participation, offering a smaller cash prize more frequently is the best option.

This. Not everyone is a fan of iPads. Not everyone wants a years supply of beer. Offer cash though, and whoever wins will be able to get something they want, therefore it appeals to the widest range of people. Smaller prizes more often gives people a better chance of winning something so they are more likely to enter - especially bearing in mind you are asking them to do some 'work', write a review or something as opposed to just ticking a box to be entered in the draw. JMO as really I answered this by answering the question 'what would make me most likely to enter a prize draw'

The "Hot Gadget" does it for me. I guess it depends on the quality of your traffic. Cash is great but if most of your traffic is fairly affluent then $50 isn't going to entice them to do much - I reckon they're much more likely to tray and get a hot gadget for free.

I like the hot gadget idea, maybe you could try out a couple of the ideas and see which one gets the best response. I also like the "beer for a year" idea!

I've run promotions for smaller items like itouches, iphones.. and more recently a Smart Car. Our marketing budget dictates that the larger prizes have to be given less frequently. I have noticed that the more frequent smaller prizes are more blogable, and potentially generate more buzz. You can send out more press releases and more mailers for more frequent prizes.

On the other hand, I really don't think our quality players even care about prizes. Most of them prefer the cash equivalent anyway. Most high rollers already have anything you could offer them anyway.

I'm convinced there's a better way to go about it, but I haven't quite figured a better alternative yet.

I tried cash, only $200 but it just didn't work. I am now promoting one quiz where I have not given details on the prize (Don't know myself yet) but have said there will be one and the results are so much better, then again I believe the promo is much better than the previous.

I voted for "other." I think the best way to go is to offer a choice to the winner, or have 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prizes (if you can afford it). Possibly something along the lines of first place prize is a year's supply of beer, second place is iPod, iPad, whatever, and third place is $20-$50, or if you just have one winner, let them choose an item from the prize pool.

I was just using your examples from the poll, but of course you can interchange the prizes. The point I was trying to make was to give the winner a choice of their prize, which may make your drawing appeal to more people.

With the way some people drink, a year supply of beer can get kind of pricey!!

Absolutely! I would play daily on Baldidiot's site if the prize is 5 litres per day for one whole year! That would cost him maximum around $50 per day, taking the exorbitant price of beer during the Oktoberfest in Munich. But I would definitely wager around $10 a day hoping to win this prize. So he will start earning as soon as 6 idiots like me go for this prize. And he will find more than 6 such idiots in Bavaria without any problem.

    Lol!

I was thinking more along the lines of those companies who send you a case of different beers from around the world each month. But I kinda like the idea of "we'll pay your tab in your local bar!". Maybe not for a whole year though

I think your best bet is to offer small cash prizes very frequently. Money is the best prize because a consumer may spend money on whatever he/she chooses to.
