What will the impact of the U.S. elections be on the online gambling industry?

On Tuesday, Democrat Barack Obama was elected president of the United States. In addition to Obama’s victory, the Democratic Party added to their majority in Congress, gaining at least five seats in the Senate and at least 17 seats in the House of Representatives. What do you think this means for the online gambling industry?

Personally, I can't see it making any difference. I can't see it rating high on his list of things to do. If there is going to be a repeal, I think it will take a change from another direction with a group of influencial politicians to make any difference and I don't see much change coming in the next 2 years.

    I hope I'm wrong though.

I don't think this will be high on Obama's priority list, but Barney Frank has shown it is high on his.

If Obama made anything clear in his campaign, it's that he wants to restore America's reputation in the rest of the world. He doesn't need to take any action on Internet gambling to do that, but if he ignores a bill that reaches his desk that would regulate the industry and get the US in line with the WTO decision, then failing to sign that bill would be a huge slap in the face to a number of key allies.

I think there's no doubt that some iteration of a Barney Frank sponsored bill will reach the House floor, and I give it a pretty good chance of passing. The key question is going to be whether or not the Senate decides to do anything about it.

In despite of our wishes gambling is not a priority, and is very hard for a congressman to raise the hand for gambling support.
Maybe the new Supreme Court could have a ruling regarding civil rights, payment restrictions and blockages.

Well, I think that if there is a crisis people tends to play more. And obama needs to make more money so he might change somethings.

not sure it will make a great deal of difference, as it wont be a priority, but he may neuter the implementation, and then put it on hold.

Online gaming is one industry which is recession proof and with recession expected to last another couple of years i think Obama will have more on his mind than gaming .

I never thought someone could dig out this ancient Election Post.
But hey, what's could have been the conclusion for this issue now that Obama is reigning the office?

I voted today for no change in policy. I would have done the same also in November if I had not missed the poll.

We can never can tell if any of that choices can happen. That is maybe a prediction but I look forward for Obama's concern about this issue. We can make online gambling a cost-effective and worthy if we know how to properly use it making ourselves a good gambler at the same time helping others by giving a piece of your price on charities.

I don't think Obama can do anything in favour of gambling as long as the land-based casinos and horseracing sites in the USA fight the online gambling to their teeth.

Watching Obama’s campaign from the beginning it appeared abundantly clear his strong believe in upholding the U.S Constitution. First Amendment Rights IMO should be upheld and respected. Obama’s choice for attorney general had this to say with respect to the Web

“ Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech.”

Obama voted in favor of the US PATRIOT ACT back in 2006 but was clear amendments were a must. One of those amendments, NO WIRE TAPPING AMERICANS. He voted against this section of the Patriot Act therefore not making it permanent.

So it would suggest the Patriot Act along with UIGEA will have to be debated once more. If Obama truly believes in upholding the U.S Constitution then I can see UIGEA being kicked out.

Okay this was hard to articulate lol.
