Where oh where do they get them??

Just wondering where these people who sell email lists get them from out of interest.

Just the other day I was offered emails adresses with all player details including deposit info and P/L at a rat of $100 per 1000

    With 35 000 available.

Where they come from and of what use are they.

I declined of course but had I say took a 1000 sample and used wouldnt that be spam?

Yes it would be spam, even if these people were opted in to a person somewhere along the way, they are not opted in to you.

These lists circulate around the black hatters like a virus in a day care center. It is not uncommon for someone to have a list addresses that is years old. This is why you get spam in surges, someone is selling a database and made a sale.... next thing ya know you get hammered with more spam and on and on and on.

Where do these people get their email list? Most usually buy them these are the high quality ones which may include name, phone number, address, credit card info etc… All the ingredients one needs to sap money out of someone. IMO, in most cases these are illegal to sell. People who collect personal data about individuals usually state something like this,

“The information you provide is protected and will never be sold to any third parties”

In our industry with little regulation personal data base sales occur on a regular basis.
Although highly ineffective purchasing one unless it is used for something else. Either way the premise is to scam something from someone.

Database sales whether good or bad occurs regularly and is just one means. Another thing to consider these purchased email list are seldom up to date.

    Here are some examples

    1. Newsgroup Extractors – a simple tool which seeks @ or AT and is highly ineffective.
    2. Website Extractors – strips the @ or AT converts it to ASC11 which is &#64
    3. SMTP Server Extractors – Targets servers that can yield thousands of email addresses.
    4. PSP Network Harvesters – Mainly work with file sharing networks.
    5. Phishing for emails – A website masquerading as a legit one.

There seems to be so many tools readily available poon (my term) someone’s email address. I think we can all agree nobody likes to receive spam. Throughout my career the most threatening regarding email spam is identity theft.
