Often considered it, however there are some very compelling arguements as to why you shouldn't.

In the old(er) days it was the way to go, now with all the social media and long standing forums out there a new forum would be a tough row to hoe.

The timing of this is interesting given that blackjackinfo.com's owner just closed what was probably the biggest card counting and advantage play message board on the web last month, stating many of the same reasons - mainly that the negativity and feuding going on between the members had driven away many of the more valuable posters. Having been a regular poster there in the past i am sad to see it go, however i do fully sympathize with Ken as i walked away from that board around 6 months ago for much the same reasons he closed it.

Brilliant article and thanks for posting it. The only thing I disagreed with was this:

"The “Entitled Ones” didn't like the forum being closed, so they started their own and pm spammed as many members as they could to switch. So much for loyalty to the owner Steve!"

The way I see it, if a forum voluntarily closes then there's no harm in the members arranging to meet up somewhere else.

I've considered starting a forum at casinobeacon.co.uk many times. And I always quickly come to a decision of "no way, not yet - if ever". I decided a little while back, whilst trimming an overbloated domain collection, that I would only do something if I could do it properly, with quality and offering something different to the competition. I'm not there with every site yet - nowhere near - but I'm working myself to death trying to achieve it.

I apply the same logic to the idea of starting a forum. I would only do it if (a) it would survive and (b) do the job brilliantly, offering at least one thing not available elsewhere. And much as I'd like to dream otherwise, because a successful casino forum would be awesome, I just know that I can't do it. Definitely not yet with the traffic I've got. Probably not ever. When I look at the competition, I'd be light years behind. It'd be embarrassing. I'm trying to build a sense of community via my newsletter group and that's working, to an extent, with some feedback coming in from the readers. But a forum? Anytime I feel like starting my own forum, I pop over to casinomeister and see how things are over there. It blows me away. It's what I would love to have but I know it's not something I could focus on, anywhere near enough, to achieve anything even remotely similar. I couldn't bring myself to start a forum knowing it would be massively shit compared to what Bryan has to offer. And massive credit to him for that.

    Well said Rob.

We also looked at starting a forum but if one looks at CM, Latestcasinobonuses and some of the larger portals' forums ours would pale in comparison. I reckon this is definitely something we'll look at in another year's time once our players base increases.

Agree completely with FictionNet - nothing can come close to CasinoMeister in terms of information - it's mind blowing
