The biggest debate raging here in the U.S. is over health care. Buzzy is sure you've seen videos of town hall meetings where citizens scream "I don't want the government touching my Medicare!" and compare Obama to various facsist leaders.
It's tough for professional poker players to get inexpensive health care, considering they're mostly independent contractors. However, if the player is a member of the World Poker Association (WPA), you are available for a health insurance program.
WPA Chairman "Captain" Tom Franklin sat down with Poker News Daily and he had this to say about the program:
Anyone who is a member of the WPA can get it. They can call up, say that they’re a member of the WPA, and ask how much it costs. When we get to 20 or 30 players taking advantage of it, we can have the best pricing possible. A lot of poker players don’t have the opportunity to receive any other health insurance since they don’t have a formal job. The insurance we receive is pretty reasonable. You can get really good comprehensive insurance for $350 per month.
