Hmm. But without www it is more practical. Right?

Think Gary had tried to answer that above. I don't know or claim to know, I just think that personally it looks better. Not sure related to performance

It makes no difference for the performance. if you have already started the site without the www. better stick to it otherwise search engines may treat it as two different sites. If you launch a brand-new site I would suggest to go with www. from the very beginning, don't forget to add the rule in the .htaccess file. There is no special reason but you see the majority of sites stick to this standard so it's better to do it this way.

    Hi mate,

Yeah, I don't think that www prefix is really relevant. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

Yes it does if you tested it. The reason for not redirecting to the www version is that many people do not use www in their backlinks, the WWW is the assumed format, the non-www is the dynamic handling of it. You will also have BOTH versions that you cannot control and you want the consolidate these to one page, not two.

In the meantime I would run ScreamingFrog and make sure you don't have multiple versions of the index page. Ise this a lot when Webmasters get lazy.

Test it using htaccess at server-level and see ifs its significant to remain timelier that the www/non-www issue. All are redirects but happen two different places, or one less command.

Generally speaking, there's not much of a difference. Most times, having www or not will redirect you to the same home page/general page. Some sites, though, have different subdomains for their country variants. So www could be the subdomain and refers to the general purpose website.

It's recommended to define all your sites as you want it to be displayed.

If you're looking purely from an SEO standpoint, it is best advised to define www than not in order to follow the same SEO method.

All that being said, and since these are quite subtle changes, it is still a grey area. As you may already know, there are hundreds of factors that affect ranking etc and the algorithm is claimed to change pretty often. So - some believe it affects SEO and some don't.
