21st of April Algo Update - we are not ready - what to expect?

Hi guys. It seems very clear that we won´t be ready until tomorrow. Our site is not responsive. BUT we will be able to finish everything some days later. Do you think that IF we lose some rankings first we will come back as soon as the site is completly mobile friendly? (I expect this because it´s an algo change and not a penatly. OR do you think this could also hurt rankings longer?

Yes, they said it's in real time so as soon as your page comply's it will rank again,

yes I think so too. You should rank again once your site is responsive. I have not updated all my sites yet either. I used WP Touch to get the not updated sites looking mobile friendly in the interim.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear! I am sure we will be ready by the end of the week so in the worst case we will habe some days with lower rankings I guess. Thanks!!

I think you will have no issues in the "long run" as this update (as stated by Google) is a "real time" algo tweak. Your page(s) will rank again as soon you make it (them) "mobile friendly".

But to be sure, we need to wait...

Of course, I believe that the algorithm will continuously roll out completely for over a week (as per Search Engine Land).

Keep in mind that this new update will only influence search rankings conducted from mobile devices.

I've seen some posts here the past few days about people hoping to gain new rankings due to going mobile while their competition did not while not taking into account that this update will have no effect on regular desktop search at all.

It will rank again. At tablet or desktop searches you won't even lose rankings, just at mobile searches and as soon as your website is mobile friendly and Google crawled and indexed, you've got back your rankings.

Good to hear. So far I can not see any rankings changes but I guess it will take some more time until the update is completed. Anyway it is good not to see a drop immediately
