Default 5Dimes Suspending USA Operations (temporarily...)

Just got this pop up when I logged into my player account.

Since they pay affiliates thru player account, and mine is a USA account I wonder how they'll handle payments.

Just thought I'd give people the heads up, did a search and didn't see any other posts about this yet.

Here's the story from Legal Sports Report:

    What happens next for 5Dimes?

Customers have until September 25 to claim balances. After that date, funds will be transferred to a third-party administrator, who will try and return them to account holders.

A 5Dimes representative declined to provide further details on the business plans when asked by LSR. However, the email seems to suggest the sportsbook could aim to transition to the regulated US sports betting market – whether out of choice or legal pressure.

    The email continues:
“We wish we could tell you everything about our future plans, but for now, please stay tuned and know we will soon reward your loyalty with extraordinary gaming experiences.”

Would have been nice if they gave their affiliates a heads up.

No kidding, nothing on the affiliate side. I've been promoting them way more the last few weeks also, now for no good reason.

Little bit of a slap in the face for affiliates who have strong player sheets there, right before NFL is starting up again.

"funds will be transferred to a third-party administrator, who will try and return them to account holders"

I don't like that sentence. Have they been forceably closed down? They have had major problems with US authorities in the past.

Who is to stop Bovada, Betonline and others from not following suit. No one wants to remain an outlaw forever.

If a book like 5dimes can fold, everything is possible.

For now, Bovada will see an upsurge and affiliates promoting them will make a lot of money. But, eventually, if 5dimes manages to lube up the US authorities to mark them the good guys, others will join the road to redemption.

While I agree that some other operators will see an uptick, but I think that it would be more organic than anything, not many affiliates promoted 5dimes from an affiliate perspective to begin with, their site was old and not optimized for conversion, most players who were playing there were playing there for value as opposed to being recreational bettors.

Maybe some affiliates were choosing the way to avoid them for obsolete design, but for me they brought decent money and no US affiliate program I tested apart of bovada was even close. Converted extremely well for whales. Biggest loss of my affiliate life so far if true.

They were promoted quite heavily. Yes the design was dated but they took a good sized bet and were honest. Converted very well for sports betting. People just want to bet with honest operators and they fitted the bill.

They would not be folding to pressure if their founder was still alive

Well 5dimes made most of their own money from the US. Don't think the book will survive in the long term.

I believe their own staff would be terrified for their own jobs as well.

This is my theory and take it with a grain of salt; but with the current ownership not really known, I would suspect whoever is in charge (let's say the widow of Creighton) wants to sell and move on with life.

The main contender of this buyout could be Pinnacle, hence the immediate removal of the US customers. But like I said, it's just a hunch.

    I hear you Sherlock,

5 Dimes was my biggest and held on to Whales VERY Well. I have been promoting them for over 14 years. This kind of stinks. They said they plan on
returning. I'm assuming it's with a more legitimate role in the US Market. I'm hoping some way we can retain some of our customers then. I had well over 100 signups. We shall see. If anyone finds anything out, please let us know.

Reminds me of when sportsbook.com did the same thing. About one week before the NFL season started they ended the affiliate program. Promised all money would be paid on existing accounts. Miraculously, all of my customers stopped betting on sports by the third week of the NFL season.

I wouldn't mind if Bovada, or Betonline went legal in the US. They do know how to run a good affiliate program.

Friendly reminder: there is no one decent affiliate program whose sportsbook went legal.

I hope they come out with BTC only sportsbook, which after all they almost were. But whatever.
