Default 79 "interested parties" approach KSA for online gambling license

The Netherlands gambling regulatory body Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) announced on its website that "79 interested parties" have approached the organization regarding securing online gambling licenses since it opened the registration process on 5 June.

KSA has granted betting incumbents until 21 June to indicate their "potential interest" in applying for licenses. It expects the new Remote Gambling Act to come into effect 1 July 2020.

    From the KSA:

The Ksa is currently setting up the licensing process in the context of the Remote Gambling Act The Senate passed this law in February. The law makes online gambling legal under strict conditions. The Ministry of Justice and Security is currently elaborating the law. When this is done, the Ksa can draw up definitive permit conditions. If the law formally enters into force, the Ksa can process license applications. The law is expected to come into force on July 1, 2020 and the market for online gambling will open on January 1, 2021.

    Call
In order to ensure that the licensing process runs smoothly, it is important for the Ksa to know how many license applications it can expect in the future. René Jansen, chairman of the board of directors of the Ksa, called on June 5 market parties to fill in the form on the website of the Ksa. He recalls that: 'Everyone will soon benefit from a smooth process. If we know how many applications we can expect, we can organize the organization accordingly. That is in our interest, but also in that of the applicants. "

Very curious to see if those big brands which have been fined will get a license from day 1 or not.

It's interesting indeed, my guess is that they won't get it first and that the priority will go to the operators with fine clean past.
