Default 7th day of smoke free living

I am on day 7 of my non smoking attempt and wanted everybody who is thinking about quitting to know it really gets easy after the first 3 days of hell. Not super easy but easier. I have been smoking for 15 years and if you need any tips that have worked for me or have your own tip please feel free to post. I have saved over $100 bucks so far and its great. Im using the patch and inhaler method in case anybody was wondering.

I have been smoking for 20 years and also recently decided to quit. All was going well for about a month or so, yes the first 3 days are hell, and then all of a sudden I'm having a BBQ at my place on Saturday and end up smoking as if I never quit. I was really dissapointed in myself. I have not had one again since then but it feels if I have to start quitting all over again!

I wish you luck and I hope that next time we chat we can both say that it is going a lot easier!

I'm on week 10 - cold turkey. Been smoking for over 30 years.

Strangely, I didn't miss it at all - after the first couple of days of reaching for my pack of cigarettes out of habit, felt as if nothing had changed.

The secret - Extra sugar-free mints

    Congrats to you both.

Just remember that each of you decided to quit on your own, because you know and trust yourself that it is the best thing that you can do for your own health.

It is a conscience decision that you have made and that no one or other ourside force is forcing you to do it so there is no reason to feelings of guilt or that you were forced into the decision.

I definitely agree on drinking lots of water. I have been drinking about 4 - 5 litres a day, so at least one thing going right.

Now where did I put that gum??

I understand, I smoked for over 20 years but quit back in the early 90's... (oops don't do the math)....

During the first few weeks after I quit I chewed on straws or always had a toothpick in my mouth....it helped a bit....

I quit smoking many years ago, but with a gradual approach. I went from 60 cigarettes per day to zero by deleting a few each day. It took me 2 months but was very effective

I quit 2 weeks after the Barcelona conference in 2008 and haven't had a cigarette since.. Not even a puff. Went cold turkey.

Last time I quit was for 2.5 years (cold turkey again), then decided to have 1 puff and it was all over... This time It has been 1.5yr. I'll never make the same mistake...

Puma - the one thing you can look forward to are the dreams where you are smoking... I cannot tell you how many of them I have..

And i have to say, it's not being addicted that kept me smoking... Because each time I've quit it has been for long periods and cold turkey when I was around a pack a day smoker... I just loved to smoke. The action, the taste..

The only thing I hated was the smell of the clothes etc..

But, once you stop, you can feel it almost immediately. When you run, or do anything that requires heavy breathing () or a higher heart rate.

    It's fantastic.

One thing I will say is that even today I'm still coughing up crap.. It takes a long time to get out.. But keep on it!

It will be the best thing you ever did

Considering you have been smoking for over 30 years, I'd say there is still a long time to wait until that ends...

Same here...I've tried a couple of times with limited success.

Although I really enjoy a cigarette, I really have to give them the flick.

I wake up every day and spend 5 min coughing my guts out in the shower. Believe me it's not a good look - I must sound like an old wino on his last legs.

Today is not quit day but tomorrow...I'll throw a patch on and see where we go.

    Great thread puma

    Cheers

hey dave, my suggestion is to get one of the inhalers as well as use the patch. It may be a perfect fit for your situation. More info here on the inhaler which is only about 40 bucks a month
