Following the lead of Vera&John, 888Poker has become the latest online gaming operator to confirm its exit from the regulated Australian market. The company will cease operations in the country on January 16 and has advised customers to deregister from tournaments that start from and after this date.

Operators that take bets from punters in the country without a local licence will be deemed to have broken the law, with individuals to face fines of up to A$1.35 million (€950,200/US$1 million) per day, while companies could be charged as much as A$6.75 million.
