About sports betting

Hello everyone!

Baseball and soccer are the most popular sports to watch in Japan. I know that in other countries, different sports have become popular.

I would like to introduce sports betting on my site. What types of sports are popular in sports betting worldwide?

Football (soccer) and Basketball have wide appeal through North America, Europe and Asia.
Baseball (Japan, US)
Rugby League (UK, Australia)
Rugby Union (UK, Australia, South Africa, NZ)

But football is the low hanging fruit - if you cover the top leagues then many people from outside that country are still interested. The NBA has some of the same appeal for basketball fans who nearly all have a fav NBA player / team too.

The other sports do NOT garner much support outside their country - so the reach is less - eg if you write about NZ rugby it will only be of interest to NZ people.

I would say it will not hurt to consider tennis as a global sport.

When it comes to sports betting, you can often find information about the high volume of bets on horse racing. In some reports on statisca, horse racing is second only to soccer. It is known that these statistics, especially in gambling, are never certain.... But certainly horse racing should be taken into account.

Of course, in the world soccer is absolutely number 1.

Of the sports not yet mentioned I would mention ice hockey. The top leagues of the NHL and KHL go beyond the US, Canada and Russia and are popular in many countries of the northern hemisphere.

Cricket and esports are also worth noting.

In Colombia and much of Latin America, I would say the top 3 are soccer, baseball, and horse racing. If I could add a fourth, it would be boxing. However, if I were to target a global market, I would go for soccer and horse racing.

If you want to primarily focus in Asian Market( especially India, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand) and Australia/New Zealand then it's Cricket number 1 on the list.

As others have said, football (soccer) and horse racing are popular and given the frequency of matches/races those sports present big opportunities if you can break through in what are already crowded areas.

Other sports will have traffic peaks for the most important events, ie tennis grand slams, golf majors, snooker majors, NFL superbowl, cricket world cup - that sort of thing, so working through what a sporting year looks like for the biggest global events wouldn't be a bad starting point.
