Default Adam Silver calls for sports betting legalization

Imagine my surprise, I'm watching my Celtics at Philly and Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner, says sports betting in the USA should be regulated.

He didn't have to say anything, he just could have given a silly interview as the questions were silly, but he chose to speak out for sports betting.

    Celtics are winning BTW.

I've heard he's stated that view previously as well.

After the whole situation with Tim Donaghy and the referee betting scandal I would have thought the commissioner wouldn't want to touch the topic of gambling with a 10ft pole.

Btw Big game by Olynyk today. Unfortunately I'm up against a team that has him this week in fantasy league...

I didn't hear about it before so it was a big surprise to see the NBA commissioner support gambling regulation during live broadcast.

The NY lawyer knows where the money is at. It's happening, it's just a matter of time now.

    Olynyk is a strange bird.

Bit off topic but Rondo just got dealt to the Mavs. They've got a loaded lineup now with Rondo, Ellis, Parsons, Nowitzki, Chandler!

So far they had 110.1 points per game, #1 in NBA, but only a 19-8 score. I guess the plan is to start scoring 125

And here's the original article, the one I so obviously missed, where Adam Silver comes out with his opinion on gambling. NY Times, Nov 14.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/14/op...s-betting.html

“I wrote that column to try to break the ice a little bit,” Silver said. “Whether it’s ESPN with bracketology, whether it’s all the lines in every national newspaper, on every web service. My point was there’s massive, massive sports betting going on in this country. Estimates are that it’s up to $400 billion a year. And my view is if it’s going to go on, let’s make it transparent, let’s bring it into the sunlight, so to speak, and let’s regulate it, the same way we do a lot of other industries. “I’m not coming in as an advocate of sports gambling. I’m trying to be more of a realist to say it’s going on in a massive way … and I think the right course would be therefore to legalize it and regulate it.”
