I noticed that some of my sites that are listed without the www. are not showing their backlinks. I added the www. version to gwt but now I have two versions of the site, does anyone know how to do this correctly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Question - do you have a redirect set that the site will show only one version?
If you have it - it's not a problem. You have both versions in GWT but google knows that there is one site and which one it is.
Also - i try to make all the links go to the url type i've set. However many say that it doesn't really matter, cause the moment the redirect is set, google knows to pass the link to the correct one.
You have done it right.. you should only see results for the non www. if you have set it up that way
Yes, add both and then Set your preferred domain https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/44231?hl=en
"Once you tell us your preferred domain name, we use that information for all future crawls of your site and indexing refreshes. For instance, if you specify your preferred domain as http://www.example.com and we find a link to your site that is formatted as http://example.com, we follow that link as http://www.example.com instead. In addition, we'll take your preference into account when displaying the URLs. "
