Thumbs up affCAFF Questions and Feedback

First I would like to congratulate GPWA on taking over responsibility for affCAFF

    (1) I tried registering from the affCAFF homepage, when I clicked 'Get ID' the page reloaded but there was no registration message on the screen and I didn't receive the registration email. Then I clicked the 'Register' link in the sidebar and filled in the form on that page, it worked and I received the email. So I think the registration form on the front page may be broken.

    (2) The activation email and the instructions email both contain a broken link to the old affCAFF forum, you might want to edit that

    (3) I see there is only mention of Snippets code in the welcome email and most of the information on the site is about Snippets, which only displays a Headline and not the full details. On the page 'Sites using affCAFF' I see there are implementations using the 'Full Version' which shows all details, not just the headline. And in the Legacy manual I see instructions for using the full version, but it says the manual has deprecated features and "we discourage their adoption by new affCAFF users". So then it appears that ONLY the Snippet code is still supported, so we can only use the system for headlines without full details. Is this correct, and if so are you planning on re-supporting the 'full version' or creating a new different system for providing more than just headlines?

    Thanks and congratulations again!
    Leo

    Leo,

Thank you very much for your feedback. A response to each of your points follows below.

To fix this issue we have now removed the broken code from the home page and instead included a link from the home page to the registration page that is working properly. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention so we could address it.

We have now updated the e-mail messages to fix the links that were broken. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention so we could address it.

Your observations are all correct. The current affCAFF snippets only include what I would call the short description or title of a bonus offer and do not include the full detailed description of a bonus.

We do plan to provide a new, more robust, interface to affCAFF bonus information that will allow easy retrieval of both the bonus title and the detailed bonus description data.

At the moment that more detailed level of information is only available using the full legacy affCAFF system. However, since our plans are to provide new interfaces to support access to the detailed bonus offer information we don't want to encourage folks to use the existing legacy affCAFF methods for accessing that information. This is expecially true because once the new interfaces are operational we would expect to phase out and ultimately discontinue support of the legacy system entirely.

Good deal GPWA. Maybe now I will consider utilizing the service and see how it works.

Thanks Michael, I look forward to exploring the new interface when it becomes available. I think the detailed bonus data will probably be more useful than just a title for many people.

Also since Google are now using speed as a ranking factor, I hope that the code will pull the details from the affCAF server as quickly as possible

Tried to sign up and test the system today, but it just kept telling me the page could not be found...

Does it matter if www. is supplied with the domain?

    Thanks for reporting this.

I've registered a test account without using the www. in the domain name and was unable to replicate the error you saw. Could you provide some more detail about the error, specifically:
    a) is the issue continuing?
    b) when in the registration process did it occur?
    c) did you receive the "affCAFF Snippets Activation Code" email?
    d) did you receive the "AffCAFF Snippets Instructions" email?
    e) what browser and operating system were you on?

This info should help us replicate the problem since I wasn't able to do so in my initial test.

Yes - got the activation email and clicked the link got >

    Your account has been activated.

You can now use the affCAFF Snippets code as detailed in an email on it's way to you.
Then I got the snippets instructions email and first tried to use the php code and got no results. I tried the javascript version and got no results. I've tried in IE, FF, Opera, etc same results - the code produces no results.

I got the page not found by trying to see if the snippets.txt file existed at the url.

Heres the account I was testing > 100616152729

    Hi arkyt,

To provide a quick update, I have been able to replicate the error on a test account. A fix is still in progress. I'll let you know when it is resolved.

I believe Michael was checking with the technical team on this. I'll follow up with him on it.

I would love to use this when you have it up and running. Tried the javascript test code which is not working at the moment.

This is currently being supported with content updates to the bonus listings, but we have not been able to devote developer time to the new-user installation error or to the improvements we have planned. We hope to be able to do this soon.

Hope that is not the case as previously the sites advertising their bonus details paid a fee.

Arkyt, I'm a bit hurt that you dismiss my explanation and replace it with the projected assumption of greed. We agreed to take over the maintenance and improvements of this tool because it seemed like a shame that such a good idea and valuable service was not able to be kept up the way the initial creators had envisioned.

As part of taking it on, we have put additional resources into the project beyond what was being done previously -- although our developers have needed to attend to other items, we have been keeping up the content updates where previously many had become outdated.

I agree that eight weeks is a long time to wait to be able to use something you're excited about, and I wish we did not have this delay. But, it is an honest case of trying to manage workloads in a way that is fair and gets everything accomplished.

    Dear Michael and CityG.

I adore this script and been testing it since beginning of my site ( in 2006) Unfortunately never managed to fully utilize it.

This is what I have done:

    1. changed affCAFF folder and every other file from 777 to 755 because my hosting (siteground) doesnt allow higher permissions. If this is the problem for your script not running then I have to contact SG probabbly.

    2. http://www.bestbonusmoney.com/affCAFF/acManager.php
There I receive this error "500 - Internal Server Error"

    COMPLETE ERROR LOG HERE
[2010-10-18 08:16:08]: error: directory is writable by others: (/home/bonus201/public_html/affCAFF)
[Mon Oct 18 08:36:49 2010] [alert] [client 77.74.227.132] /home/bonus201/public_html/affCAFF/.htaccess: Invalid command '<!DOCTYPE', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
    3. Uploaded php.ini with "register_globals = On" in every folder.

    4. Tried with Jscript but not working also
    http://www.bestbonusmoney.com/affcaff.html

Could you please check and tell me what is wrong.
I believe it is not big issue , maybe you can solve it , please?

    Regards
