Affiliate Manager Interview Series: Martin- CostaDelPoker
In this seventh installment of our Affiliate Manager Interview Series we talk with Martin, Affiliate Manager for CostaDelPoker. These fun and informative question and answer sessions are an opportunity to get a personal feel for the people who run the affiliate programs, and we hope they will foster rewarding and productive relationships between GPWA members and sponsors. Please Welcome Martin!
How you got into the industry?
I started playing at online casino's around four years ago, and moved to poker within a few months - and have spent far too many hours over the years playing poker online and chatting in the forums! Online and Offline gaming have long since been interests of mine, since I first visited Las Vegas some 5 years ago, and when I was looking for a change in direction a year ago, online gaming seemed a natural choice given my interest in the subject and my past work experience!
What jobs have you had?
I spent 9 years working my way up one of Europe's Largest Pharmaceutical distributors, and for the last two years I was with the company, my position was Managing Director for Southern Europe, with scores of staff to look after and thousands of customers it certainly made for stressful work!
I was also involved in the international launch of several new medications and handled marketing for multiple leading manufacturers. Prior to working in the Medical Industry I was the Technical Director for a large Spanish Internet Service Provider, and my original training was in OracleG4 Databases, and applied relational database design, programming and implementation. All in all my marketing and technical backgrounds have furnished me with most of the basic skills needed to run a successful online gaming business!
Why do you like the gaming Industry?
Because every day is different and presents new challenges and opportunities - and I'm no longer stuck to a desk!
Favorite past times?
When I get a chance to play, I still cant stop playing medium to high stakes NLHE, and my first love was playing pool and I have played at a regional level in both US 9 ball and European 8 ball - apart from that my girlfriend and I live in the Spanish Countryside with our dogs and cats, and enjoy a good outdoors life!
In 2008- where do you see this industry?
Given the state of affairs right now, I feel that 2008 will be a year to consolidate ones place in the industry and develop new customers in the non traditional markets, such as Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. We have been very lucky in this as we are currently in the top 5 poker rooms by traffic for Poland and Romania, both massively expanding markets at the moment!
We also plan to launch another poker brand during the course of 2007, and also we are in negotiations with several software suppliers regarding US market entry as well.
What TV shows you watch!
Here in Spain I pick up British TV by Satellite, and my favorite channel has to be PokerZone, with "Poker Night Live" every evening from 10pm to 1am where they follow online tournaments and cash games live, with expert analysis and some very tongue in cheek commentary! Apart from that we also enjoy programs such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and American Idol (I know, I know, it’s the mrs. that watches Idol, honest!!).

His poker site was closed down by the network. They did not want to be associated with a person who owns a forum that is in the business of stealing other forums private events and listing them as his own. His forums hosting company did shut him down now he is on an overseas host. Several affiliate reps have contacted him about the violations of listing other forums private events and have closed his affiliate account. Yet he still continues his deceptive ways.
This person has been reposted more than once for DMCA violations. http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?id=6247&p=1 the site was put back online but you can see he has had problems before. It looks like other members that did purchase the scripts from him were not refunded for their purchase of scripts he did not have the right to sell.

He has also sold a site on sitepoint that had logos and images for the WSOP.
The new owner of the site is considering going after him,
