Default Affiliate paid in advance but no traffic

    Hi,

We paid an affiliate money in advance on the 21st of April, for a IM campaign for casino traffic. We never received any traffic since then. Until now the affiliate seemed legit to me, but he is either away or ignoring me now, I get no replies to my requests for an update on the deal/traffic. Is there anyone who has experience with this person?

    name: Richard Davies / gamblingdatahunter

I would appreciate if anyone can help us out, any info is welcome.

    Default Affiliate

    Hi

It is always sad to hear a story like this .I have to ask a few questions though

Why did you assume that he was legit ?
Did he have a site ?
Have you actually met the person - do you have a long term relationship with him ?

There are scammers in every walk of life and unfortunately some of them seem to have infiltrated the gaming world. I do hope that this is not the case for you.

It's indeed quite unfortunate when such instances happen, not only do they sour the relationships but also bring a bad name to the legitimate ones.

I suppose the best approach is to continue sending the affiliates emails following up on the campaign and if there's a phone number that would be even better. Also give it enough time as the 'temporary' absence (in the best case) might be due to other reasons for all you know. And if the aff is indeed trying to scam you, then they won't be getting too far in the industry!

For the future, it would always help to ask the affiliate(s) for references from the industry so you can do a background check.

I am also aware of this Richard Davies (Gambling Data Hunter) as he has sent me 5-10 emails over the last 6 months offering Adwords traffic as well as player mailing lists, none of which I have taken.

Do you know where he is based? Your best course of action is probably to seek legal advice on the matter.

Although this won't immediately get your money back I would also do my best to publicly warn other programs and damage his reputation. I'm sure he will email you back quick enough when he wants you to remove this thread.

I'm going to email him this thread URL and see if he will come here and explain...

a big AVOID and I am trying to steer away as much as possible from paying upfront as I have been burnt too many times.

Hmmm, don't think we've received anything from him but we've got several offers along the same lines. We too avoid any pay upfront deals.

In any case, sorry to hear this happened to you. I agree with Dave; the best course of action is to spread the word as far and wide as possible to warn others.

I do hope that you are able to sort this out satisfactorily though.

First of all, thanks a lot guys for the fast replies. I had, and have, the feeling he was legit; it was based on a mix of him always being available and my "gut feeling".

Richard contacted me by email, after I wrote that I was gonna post on a forum. He promised that by latest Wednesday this week the money will be back. I will keep you updated as soon we indeed received this money back.

    cheers,

This sucks hearing about this kind of stuff....

It makes it difficult for us honest affiliates to ask for listing fees, or the occassional flat fee to start or increase exposure to a property network wide...

I am surprised that affiliate managers get sucked into these scams if I am to be honest. Before commiting to any paid media buys, it would be prudent to at least meet with the affiliate in question in person. It is not like there are not any industry conferences held throughout the year.

That said, your best course of action is legal action to get your money back.

yeh, you would think that but we still got burned after doing a deal face to face, handshake, all nice and friendly then got next to 'jack all' from over $20k's worth of 'campaign'.

We had history with this guy to, he knows the boss, I'd met him before and had lunch. He's a smug git too! (that bit might give it away!)

Needless to say, we don't do that kind of thing anymore.

    Hi Class1Casino,

Sorry to hear you got "burnt" on the deal, I sincerely hope this guy returns the cash. I remember we opted for a similar deal (Advertising campaign) with Class1Casino, Rick their (Affiliate manager) told me outright that ad campaigns don't work for him and to a certain extend (in line with your post) I can understand why most affiliate managers simply don't want to follow this route anymore, unfortunately honest affiliates have to bear the brunt of this.

    Cheers,

That's really a shame because in the end most of us are too wary to risk it and opt for not going through with such types of deals which could have in other circumstances been beneficial to both parties.

As usual genuine, honest people who could have worked together for the betterment of the industry get left out in the cold because of a handful of unscrupulous individuals.

    Update as promised:

It took me about one day to get our payment details and pass them on to this advertiser, so the refund can take one day more of course. The advertiser assured me that we would be refunded on Wednesday 11th or Thursday 12th of May. Until now nothing yet, but the day isn't finished let's say.

    Will update tomorrow again.

    Cheers,

    Class1Casino

I just got an email confirmation from Richard that their payments are always done at the end of the day, their working day goes upto 9 PM UK time he says. He will send me a confirmation as soon as the refund is done. So I hope/count on it that tomorrow morning I will post a "case closed" here.

    Cheers,

This is the worst part of a deal that goes wrong like this.
We (aff mgrs) would love to be able to do more deals like this but it's the bad apples that ruin it for everyone.

we get a few emails from webmasters who basically mail us offering traffic, but we've seen it happen so often that we know that they are most disingenuous. i ask for references from media buyers who claim they buy or sell traffic to other casino groups - so far, 0 have replied back when i ask them that question.

    update:

I just had contact with our payteam manager and guess what....... NOTHING of a refund received yet. Until yesterday evening I had trust that it would come ok, now I start to give up. I guess you guys will draw your own conclusions/opinions out of this post already. I just sent my last email for now to "Mr Richard Davies". If it is not paid today, I will copy paste here exactly what he wrote me over the last weeks, pure facts, and you all can read what his believes of doing "business" are I guess.

    cheers,
