    Default Alternative Marketing Strategy

    Hi all

I am launching my own site in just a few weeks time, and been thinking a lot about alternative marketing strategies. When I say alternativ, I mean methods besides Google, Yahoo and link exchange.

My best idea so for for offline marketing is advertising on pizza cardboards. The segment is perfect for gambling related advertising, men between 18 and 40. Furthermore people have there cardboards lying arround at least a few hours. So the marketing message will often be seen.

Online there would be social networks as facebook. But I just cannot see how this give the user any value to become a member. Only thing would be to receive newsletters. Have any of you had any good result with social networks?

Do you guys have any ideas?

    /Michael

I like the idea of the pizza cardboards. Sounds good. Or maybe a little bit cheaper, flyers on the cardboards. Then the people can take it off the card boards and trow away the cardboard, but keep the flyer.

Before you start any offline marketing, you must be sure that the country you are based does not consider such activities as illegal.

    Thumbs up

I think offline advertising is a great idea been doing it for a while now. I have a few commercials broadcasted on private networks throughout the U.S and Canada. The ads are unrelated for online gambling thus far the response has been great.

Replacing the ads with my gambling information site will be a non-issue for they lie on a Private Network.

I am curious if anyone has heard of WideCircles internet viral marketing engine? I was referred to it by another webmaster. They work by publishing messages on various forum, blog, wiki, classified, etc websites. These messages then contain backlinks which help with SEO, as well attract lot of referral traffic. They bill around 0.40c per each post thats been active for 5 days and claim a single post can easily attract 100 or more hits a day, I am going to give them a try today and see how it goes. If anyone wants to check it out here is the link.

Only one post and it is promoting another company? Hope there is more to this than what I think. My comments on such an idea would that it might cause sites like Google to remove you from a listing and this could harm your reputation considering it looks like spam. If I am wrong then please explain.

Back to the pizza box idea my guess is poker or sportsbetting would be more attractive for that market than an online casino would be. But I like it because it is different and I think it has potential.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but...

In my experience (with non-affiliate marketing for online businesses at least) I have found offline marketing for a purely online business to be a waste of time, unless you are huge and are doing it for branding purposes (ebay huge, not gambling affiliate huge). The targetting and segmenting abilities of online advertising may be a little lacking sometimes but believe me they are lightyears ahead of anything the offline world has come up with.

There is too much disconnect between a potential customer seeing an ad, paying attention to it, remembering the URL or keeping the flyer / pizza box / whatever, then sitting down later, typing it in if they can be bothered etc. Not only that but you are paying for a lot of "wasted eyeballs" of people who aren't the slightest bit interested in what you are selling and never will be (although this is true of almost any type of marketing).

In other words I am saying that you will get a better ROI if you spend your marketing budget online.

Here's some ideas I thought were "outside the box"
    (1) Place stamps on eggs with your website domain.
    (2) Paint cows. (sounds like fun.)
    (3) Go to the Mexican border and hand out maps and water bottles (for humanitarian reasons) with your website info.. you'll get a press release for sure. Could backfire, but it's an idea.
    (4) I heard some poker affiliates were placing brochures inside books at the bookstores.

That's straight out of guerllia marketing 101, i love it!

Back in the day when I was a sales rep, I used to put my business card inside relevant books in bookstore and libraries. It did work, however, you do end up with security guards following you around the store.

This just gave me an idea library in the gambling and sport section make bookmarks for each book that should let people know about your site.
