Antigua attorney Mark Mendel told the Antigua Sun that he anticipates that Antigua will be ready to announce the status of its negotiations with the US on the WTO dispute over Internet gambling sometime next week.

An interesting twist in the story is Mendel's take on the EU's visit to the USTR and the Justice Department to discuss the differences between the US and EU stances on Internet gambling.

Mendel stated, Its kind of odd because the EU is supposedly investigating the US conduct with respect to Internet gambling. They have actually sent a delegation over to America to meet with US trade officials on the Internet gambling issue. The odd thing is that the EU has already agreed to allow the Americans to withdraw their commitment for gambling, so it has never really been adequately explained to me what the EU is trying to do with that.
