I am worried about our NZ affiliates that may have been in the region of
yesterdays quake. Gooner, if your here and ok, a quick word would be appreciated
so i don't worry about you.
THanks

it was sad to read about that in the morning and the pictures on bbc were devasting.
If it's not the devastation of floods, cyclones or bush fires in Australia, it's another earth quake in Christchurch. This one was not as high on the richter scale as the last one but I think the last one must have done a lot of unseen structural damage.
Would be why we're seeing so many more casualties and loss of life.
Either way it's certainly sad news. I too hope Gooner as well as other NZ affiliates are ok!
Cheers
Dave
All ok here, I live in Wellington. But have family down there. So far we have been unable to make contact with my sister so it is a very hard time at the moment.
The earth quake was smaller than the last, but alot more shallow and closer to Christchurch city, hence the reason for more damage and loss of life.
So far 75 have died, 20 unidentified and 300 missing, these figures are expected to rise dramaticly.

Heard those stats on the local radio this morning. God, it's so dramatic already, I hope the figures do not go much higher.
My prayers and with everyone affected by this and also you and your family. Hope you do get to hear from your sister soon and she is safe and sound. Please keep us posted.
I'm willing to bet that the last earthquake shook things up and made the buildings unstable and this one has knocked them all down...
Wellington is about 2 hours by car right Jamie? Any chance of driving down there?
One of my best friends was supposed to be in Christchurch that day, but they stopped in wellington on the way. i had the sickest feeling in my stomach until she finally emailed me later in the day to tell me she was ok but the telephone reception was shot and they had to go for a drive to even get the message to me..
Hopefully that is what has happened to your sister..
My thoughts are definitely with you and your family..

Jamie, I am glad to hear your sister is ok - it must have been a worrying time for you.
Gooner, Glad you are unscathed too. Where in New Zealand do you live?
The reason I ask is because I have a house in Gulf Harbour on the North Island - near the Whangaparoa Peninsula. I am actually going there on the 3rd April.
It certainly is devastating news - especially so soon after the last one.

Pleased to hear that so far all the NZers on this forum seem to be checking in and OK.
My sister lives over in Wellington with her daughter and our Mum moved over to be with them last year. They've often mentioned that Wellington was supposed to be the next likely location for a big quake.
So, when my radio-alarm went off and came in half way through a new report on a massive earthquake in NZ I certainly woke up pretty quick. Seemed like forever till the reporter mentioned it had hit Christchurch. Then I realised that I had practically no idea on the basic geography of the place or how far away Christchurch was.
Got to speak to my Mum last night and it seems that NZ is the kind of place where it seems everybody in the country knows people in Christchurch so everyone has been deeply affected.
Makes you feel grateful not have gone through something like that.
