    Update:

Police have named two babies who died in the Christchurch earthquake.

The death toll from the Christchurch earthquake has risen to 98, Canterbury District Commander Dave Cliff says.

Another 226 people have been reported missing by loved ones and police hold grave concerns for their safety, he says. The majority of the 98 confirmed deceased are expected to be included within the 226 missing.

Wellington was suppose to be where the big one hit, Because Christchurch has now received two in such a short period of time first one being 7.1 and the second 6.3, Wellington and the surrounding towns are on high alert.

Myself live right on top of one of the main fault lines, so i am hoping we don't get a third here.

That's so sad, especially about the babies.

I pray that most of those reported missing will be found safe and sound.

    Update:

113 now confirmed dead and 228 still missing. However the US, Australia, China and Japan have sent in people to help. We have had 300 NEW police from Australia come in so our police force can have a well deserved rest. Unfortunately another 5 month old baby was found who had passed away.

Now that they have started to go into the suburbs of Christchurch the death toll is expected to rise, One news channel have claimed it could reach well over 500 by the time clean-up has been complete.

I am seeing what I can do and maybe going down there on Monday to help in anyway i can, will let you know if I am. No survivors have been found since Wednesday. Its now Friday night here in NZ

Yes indeed, it's good to see that people are coming from all around to help. Mankind has generally been like that in a way - able to put all differences aside and help our fellow men in times of crisis.

Take care of yourself while you are there Jamie. I admire your bravery - guess you might be faced with some pretty gruesome sights if you will be helping with the cleanup.

    Please keep us posted.

    Update:

Death Toll now sits at 145, unfortunately there have been a number of arrests because of looters. Bloody makes you sick when people try and steal at the time of a major disaster.

The following link is to some photo's of how bad this earthquake was. On the same website you can find recorded video of when the earthquake hit via CCTV.

Just looked at the photo´s, pretty sick. It seems like alot more people could have been hurt, than the numbers reported.
