    Default AOL email addresses

I have no idea what those jerks have done, but I can't get email thru from any of my commercial email addy's, even when I'm responding to their email!! And it's been like this for a few weeks now. On my last mailing, I had nearly 300 AOL emails bounce.

So, if you have an AOL addy, please get me an alternate addy so I & the board can mail you from GPWA. Thanks!

AOL have really tight spam filters which is a problem when doing a mass mailing

AOL are totally useless as an ISP. Not only do they mess up your pc settings to get more advertising in your face (ICQ gives their domains trusted status in Windoes for example), but they try to discredit other ISPs. I've had to refuse to allow bids from AOL mail users on Ebay as a result of their stupid attitude. They also bounce a load of emails to me that didn't even originate from anything to do with me.

About a year ago AOL were deliberately delaying or deleting mail from Freeserve (a big UK ISP). I proved this by sending 2 identical mail items - one from a Freeserve address and one with a forged envelope that used the recipients address. The forged one arrived immediately, the other took 3 days to arrive. I started a long discussion about this on the Ebay help boards and got further confirmation that AOL were deliberately delaying mail to discredit competitors.

    Just ban all AOL addresses

as a tech, I try to get my customers to rid themselves of AOL.

I tell them how it takes over the system and sometimes they won't listen until the new and improved aol version comes out, they update and then need to reformat their Hard drive and reinstall windows!

I also ask, why pay a company that just spams you with ads from the second you loggin?

They are so famous for getting and spreading email viruses as well

    I hate AOL

What really makes me angry about this is that I can't even respond to any AOL users who write to me - what business is that of AOL's??

I have a notice on my maillist signup form now that if they're using an AOL email addy they won't get my mailings, so they need to give me an alternate addy.

I started on the internet with AOL - it's like having training wheels when you're a kid learning how to ride. When I tried to install the first update after I got on the net (can't remember which one it was), AOL's browser would never work for me, regardless of installing, and reinstalling 5 times!!

I eventually had to install Netscape in order to go to the web, and WOWOWOWOW! It was like seeing the internet for the first time - I'll never forget that. It was like the blinders had been removed, and I never looked back.

AOL has its place, with the Grandparents of the world whose main interest in the computer is pics and email with distant family. And maybe for very small children, but since kids learn so much, so early, I wouldn't even advise that for too long with them - this is their future.

If you want to mail an AOL user, then you can use something like Postcast Server to mail them with a changed envelope. Best to change the reply and return addresses to the one you are mailing ie. AOL.

That means the sender is NOT valid.

Isn't a valid sender one of the stipulations in the new law?

Anyone that sends me mail with a forged sender or anything else in the header that is forged, is automatically considered a spammer. Why would you want to resort to "Fraudulently pretending to be someone else?"

Because AOL are fraudulently pretending that mail came from me and messing up my mail box, they are also wasting a lot of my time.

Isn't it also an offence to interfere with requested mail?

Anyway they are welcome to prosecute me and I hope they benefit from all the attendant publicity. It's one of my missions in life to wean people away from AOL, but I've only managed 6 so far.

Oh yes - AOL are also sending me several thousand unsolicited mail items - isn't the compensation calculated per unit.

Does that mean that you don't think I've got AOL worried then.

I did write to them and complain, but I told them that I'd got AOL blocked so they would have to use an alternative address to reply. They must be having trouble finding one because I haven't had an answer yet.

They're about as worried as an elephant would be if a flea was climbing its leg with **** on his mind.
