Okay, let me be the first.

What would be the best practice for ranking a site that's in the following situation:

Dynamic site that creates a lot of valuable content, but mostly numbers, the site isn't textual and doesn't have articles. Here is one example of such a site.

    How to rank that?

First of all many thanks to Miles and Art for this opportunity.

    My questions are about backlinks.

How safe is the link exchange between same niche websites?
If one of the sites get penalized, will it affect to other site(s) too?
What you think(what would be your advice) about signature links from forum posts?
Are these kind of backlinks spammy and unnatural?

Dear Guru, what's your take on internal linking? Splash the links around like a madman on anything and everything? Plan the whole thing with precision of a surgeon and using perfect anchors? Something in between? Or who cares, don't make a difference anyway?

    @ DanHorvat,

Thanks for your question. This is quite a tough one, I'll have to ask Matt Cutts first

Here is my opinion, Google is a semantic driven search engine and determines how good a page/url ranks on a certain search term through either on-page content or off page with links.

Without on-page content it makes it more difficult for Google to categorize and index a site but with enough backlinks from content that is relevant to the site it should make it easier for Google to classify the site.

The ideal situation would be a mixture of both. I do not see a reason why tečajnalista.com cannot have content. This in conjunction with off-page links and proper anchor strategy should be enough to make it rank better.

    Warm regards
    Art

    Hi Art,

I am not an expert in SEO, but I was wondering why my website betonlineuk.com is now struggling to get on first page for the term betonlineuk.
There seems to be spammy websites not related to niche occupying top spots. For example xxxhttp://gymquest.com/bet-online-uk/ is one. What would be the easiest, quickest way back to the top as it was before.

    @ Vardan,

    Thanks for your question. Here is my opinion;

There are different views on link exchanges. It really depends on the situation for me.

I'd be careful when doing link exchanges with a site/sites that are

    - Spammy and has a high OBL
    - Have no PR and no traffic
    - Generally bad quality content and are not user friendly
    - Is not in the same niche

However I would be interested if

    - The site has good traffic with low OBL
    - Has good PR and traffic
    - Has good relevant content
    - is in the same niche

With all that said link exchanges do not give as much value as one way linking. So link-building should form an essential part of your SEO strategy.

Forum links don't really hold value but they can drive (although) very little traffic to your domain. If the link is relevant to the forum and the link adds value to the reader, I don’t see any reason not to but be sure no to overdo it, besides your brand's name is on the line.

    I hope this helps.

    Warm regards
    Art

    @ Kopse,

    Thanks for your question.

Internal linking is an important part of SEO, so splashing links around is not the best idea.

Here are some links with information to help with internal linking.

    @PromoteCasino

    Thanks for your question,

There might be a couple of reasons for the sudden drop in rankings. Google might have penalized your site. When did this happen?

I had a look at your backlinks to see if there might be a reason for the drop in rankings. My suggestion would be to clean up your backlinks and try getting some more backlinks from other sites.

    I hope this helps.

    Warm regards

    Hi Art,

Its probably the last 3-4 weeks.
I don't understand why it would be penalized as there are very few links. Just one from my other site (promote casino) which did suffer from one of Google's algos and gpwa.
Should I remove the promote casino link and if so how long would it be before it would show?

    Thanks

    Hi,

The one link from promote casino will not have affected your rankings, so there is no need to remove that link.

I still suggest getting some more backlinks to boost your SEO as your competitors might have been a little more aggressive with their SEO strategies. By getting some good backlinks you should see an increase in ranking within a month or two.

You could also focus more attention on different keywords.

    I hope this helps.

    Warm regards
    Art

    Hi Art,

Thanks for the advice on the links, I have removed just in case. But do you have any explanation about the spammy sites in front of mine for that term that are not related to the niche?

    @ Promote Casino

I assume that these sites have done some work on ranking better in certain keywords including betonlineuk. Rankings fluctuates from time to time, get some good backlinks and I am sure you are going to see a difference in a month or two.

    I hope this helps.

    Warm regards
